I was looking into going to back to school for computer programming. I have an associates from a state community college (regionally accredited) BS in Information Systems from American Sentinel University (nationally accredited) and am currently going for my masters at Capella. I was hoping to take the minumum amount of classes necessary to attain another degree in programming and figured that wouldn't be a problem since Colorado Technical University told me they accept both nationally and regionally accredited credits and that my current BS is in Information Systems (I went the web page creation/business route my first time around).
My admissions advisor was extrememly helpful until I statred asking and discussing the amount of credits that would be accepted from my transfer. He then stopped answering my emails. I received an email today from my advisor saying my enrollemnt was terminated. I immediatedly emailed him back and got a response. He stated he had tried to call and decided on his own that since I would still be a freshman after all my transfer credits that I would probably not want to go. Despite the fact that I told my advisor not to contact me by phone because I am unable to talk on my cell at work he still thought that was the best way to get in touch with me--to be honest that doesn't really concern me in the least-- msicommunication happens all the time.
My issue is that a school that advertises that they accept both regionally and nationally accredited credits after I attempted to transfer an assoicates that had all the required core courses and a BS in a similar field and they try to sell me on the fact I would still be a freshman?? I am going to Capella (a regionally accredited school) for my masters!!! (Meaning they accepted ALL my credits) What this tells me is that their credit eval is based nothing more than the amount of money they can get from you.... The less they accept the more you have to pay them....

I totally agree with you and if I was informed after my queries I would not have filed this report. Am still not sure why my initial adviser after multiple requests didn't inform me of the fact my associates and bachelors hadn't come in (even after I asked him why those credits were supposedly not accepted) and my second adviser informed of this after five minutes is a mystery.

A second advisor got in touch with me and stated my American Sentinel and Essex County College transcripts did not arrive. For some odd reason my initial advisor didn't tell me even after I inquired about both those transcripts and why those credits weren't accepted. I would actually remove this post if I could for now it is an issue with the advisor and not the school.

Actually, I'm not so sure you've been ripped off. If anything, it sounds like the admissions rep did you a favor by disenrolling you from a program that wouldn't fit your needs.
I was a transcript evaluator for many years (at a private college) and the rules can be tricky. This would be particularly true of courses in the computer field since it changes rapidly. The fact that American Sentinal is nationally accredited (versus regionally) would make me very cautious about accepting their credits in transfer.
BTW - a graduate program doesn't "accept" credits in the traditional sense. They accepted your BS in it's entirety as a prerequisite to entrance.
