I had cable for years. I subscribed to their internet service and had the basic cable (not the digital). The prices on the cable started to creep up. So I had to cancel service and switched to Dish Satellite, after I called Comcast, to cancel the tv service, they increased the price on my cable internet service because i dont subscribe to the tv anymore. Thats a freaking rip off. Finally the DSL became available and its 15 bucks cheaper -speed is great.

So I called Comcast again Saturday 12/9/06 to cancel the internet service. Luckily i called on time where my monthly bill almost came out even. So i only owe them 7 cents. I returned the modem i was renting 2 days later and they charged me 3 bucks. Its not much much why charge me a month's worth for that crappy modem. They should have pro-rated the fee. But of course its Comcast-
Its all about GREED. So i hope that this company will go down one day.

Its not the price i am worried about its the principle. But its not even worth the aggravation to tell them.

A self install kit is availible

If you don't want to pay for a professional installation you can always pick up a self install kit. Hook up the modem yourself and call the tech support to register. Also with DSL if you don't have phone service with the telephone company that provides the service you will pay more also. There are discounts to be had on the services, but it depends on the services you have. You won't get internet at the cheapest rate if all you have is internet service.

I'm a Line Tech for Comcast in Indiana

First: The Comcast high speed internet service is cheaper if you have cable tv service. Thus they made you aware of this when you cancelled your tv service, if you would have taken a digital cable package you would have gotten a even lower price than what you were paying before with just plain tv and the internet, also the cable modem is faster than the dsl modem but if the dsl speed works for you then thats good too, also with your dish you had to get a digital satilite receiver anyway. Which you would have gotten a digital cable box if you would have ordered a digital package.

Second: Comcast charges 50 dollars to come out and hook up the internet because you have to have specific amount of signal to the cable modem and the 50 dollars pays for the service tech to go to your house and do what ever he needs to do to get the modem opperational for you.

Welcome to the Disgruntled Former Comcast Subscribers Club! I too have moved away from Comcast for these reasons. I never understood why they would charge $50 to have a tech come to your house to start up internet access, when it can be done on the phone in 5 minutes. Oh yeah, it's so they can make up for the 3 months where they only charge you $19.99 for internet before they jack up the price to $55 plus $5 for modem rental.

I'm glad DSL is starting to speed up, plus I feel their service is more reliable, and it's about 25% cheaper without the price increases.

Hopefully there are more consumers out there like you who won't put up with the actions of Comcast, and they'll pull there heads out.
