The customer service people at CPS are far from customer service oriented.  I am two weeks overdue with my payment, have another due in two weeks.  I can make both payments before next payment due date. I told the less than helpful lady this on the phone and she told me If I didn't make a payment today they would repo my car.  TWO WEEKS OVERDUE WITH PROMISE TO PAY AND BRING ACCOUNT CURRENT IN TEN DAYS!  Have had the account for less than a year, never a day late on any payment.  Unfortunately this month didn't get as many hours as I anticipated, caused a bit of a glitch for me, doesn't usually happen but it did.
CPS will NOT work with me, will not give me a deffered payment plan for my account until I can bring the a count current in 10 days.  This company is NOT worthy of your business.  I hear they have a Better Business Bureau rating of F.  I think this is the worst you can get.
DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!  Buy a bicycle, borrow a car from a friend if need be, this company appears to be a SCAM, a RIP-OFF and might be only loaning you money in hopes of reposessing your vehicle to re-sell again.  To me it appears to be basically a 'pyramid" scheme of sorts.  Finance a vehicle, repo it, resell it, make more money.
Check the internet for comments by other customers, they are abundent and true horror stories of this companies practices before you consider doing business with them!
Beware!  CUSTOMER PORTFOLIO SERVICES  will NOT work with you in difficult times (from personal experience).

WORD TO THE WISE!  Do not do business with Customer Portfolio Services at ANY cost!

CPS are indeed scum!

AUTHOR: Graham1954 - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, March 22, 2012

I have to agree with Ken and others here who are not obvious either employees or paid responders.

I paid off my CPS loan over 5 years ago and have the documents to prove it, but according to CPS I still owe $21000 due to me originally being outstanding for $432.  If this was the case then why did I get the title to my car?

I actually tried talking to one of their so called customer service reps and was told "Yes it was only $432 but that was 5 years ago and our fees and interest mean you now owe $21008.37"  "now how do you intend to pay this?"

Sandra (the rep) wasn't interested into looking into the fact that they had sent me the title to the car plus documents that stated "Paid in full" all she wanted to know was "how will you pay" lol.

I obviously said to her "I owe nothing so sue me and I'll meet you in court"  But then when I checked my credit report this morning they have posted the debt as outstanding saying I paid $2 on the 13th after speaking to Sandra.

I have disputed this with all 3 credit bureaus and I'll wait to see what happens, but I do expect that it will disappear as fast as it appeared as I included copies of their paperwork with the disputes ;)

This company is a true bottom feeder.

Same DEADBEAT heard from again....

AUTHOR: Ken - (USA)

POSTED: Friday, March 16, 2012
"First of all you don't know me and nothing about me. Trust me I am far from a deadbeat."
Really, then are you making up the way CPS operates or going on hearsay?

"I stated before you are just as arrogant and ignorant and nasty as they are." Again, how do you know this if you aren't a DEADBEAT?

" Maybe you have money like that where ALL OF YOUR BILLS WERE ALWAYS PAID ON TIME EVERY SINCE MONTH AND NOT EVEN A DAY LATE and if that's the case well then good for you but not everyone has it like that."
Nope, I'm far from rich, but I do carefully consider my payback obligations BEFORE taking them on..that's what separates the ones of us with 3% loans from the DEADBEATS with 20%+ loans.

And, no, I have NEVER been late on ANY payment in my over 50 years of using credit.  NOT lucky, NOT having a sack of money, NOT EVER stiffing a creditor. All this through good borrowing practices and, if necessary, paying my debts before ANY other spending....DEADBEAT.

"Enjoy being ignorant in your own little lonely life."
I guess being ignorant has it's little advantages...no debts, no late fees, no bad credit reports.

I also don't have my "own, lonely, little life."  My wife, family and friends do just fine, thank you.

Have a nice day and stay by the phone for your next little friendly reminder call from CPS.

So lonely

AUTHOR: Concerned - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, March 16, 2012

First of all you don't know me and nothing about me. Trust me I am far from a deadbeat. I have better things to do then to sit on this website all day and night putting down other people because they went through a little rough patch in their lives. Maybe you have money like that where ALL OF YOUR BILLS WERE ALWAYS PAID ON TIME EVERY SINCE MONTH AND NOT EVEN A DAY LATE and if that's the case well then good for you but not everyone has it like that. It's very rude and ignorant for you to put people down and call them names when you don't even know then or know there situation. If you are not an employee or a former employee of CPS then you should have been because like I stated before you are just as arrogant and ignorant and nasty as they are. I will not stoop to you level and go back and forth on RIPOFFREPORT.COM I have much better things to do with my time. Enjoy being ignorant in your own little lonely life.

You must be an employee of CPS because you sound just as nasty and ignorant as everyone I have ever spoke with there and you found it necessary to comment on every post regarding this company. Regardless of anyone's situation, whether they pay their bills or not CPS reps are STILL CUSTOMER SERVICE and they have no right to speak to customers the way they do."
ANOTHER deadbeat heard from.  :)

The other rebuttals tell it like it is...

AUTHOR: Ken - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, March 13, 2012

Here's from CPS's website....

"CPS Profile
Consumer Portfolio Services, Inc. (CPS) is a specialty finance company that provides indirect automobile financing to vehicle purchasers with past credit problems, low incomes or
limited credit histories."

Looks like you're "fated" to go through life like this.

"The check's in the mail."

"I thought my wife sent the check."

"Looks like the post office lost it, again."

"I've NEVER been late before, well, okay maybe a few times, but always less than 30 days."

"The bank failed to post my pay check and I had to wait until they did."

Ad infinitum....they've heard it all, EVERY DAY. And they don't believe ANY of it.

Pay Your Bills!

AUTHOR: Jim - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, March 13, 2012

"Customer Service" is one thing. "COLLECTIONS" is another! You are late on your payments, living up to your reputation of NOT paying your bills on time. You bet they will call you because they know your reputation! If you don't want BILL COLLECTORS calling you...simple solution...PAY YOUR BILLS!

CPS talks a lot of stuff

AUTHOR: Concerned - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, March 12, 2012

Regarding all the negative feedback this consumer is receiving, regardless what the situation CPS has no right to treat people the way they do. I to have been 1 day late and they will call you up to 10 times a day and they will call back to back not even giving you the chance to return their call.

The will yell, curse, hang up on you and they do threaten to repo your vehicle which all they are doing is harrassing because they never come and get it. I understand they finance for people who have had bad credit and are trying to repair their credit and yes they charge ridiculous rates but that does not give them any right to treat people they way they do. Their customers are human beings not a piece of trash off the street and that is exactly how cps treats them. I really wish this company would go out of business or someone would shut them down for the poor customer service they give.

Confused

AUTHOR: Flynrider - (USA)

POSTED: Monday, December 05, 2011

The title of your post states that they will repo your car if you are one day late.   The body of your post states that you are two weeks late and presumably still in posession of the car.   What are we missing?

TWO WEEKS OVERDUE WITH PROMISE TO PAY AND BRING ACCOUNT CURRENT IN TEN DAYS! "

A "promise to pay" means very little to a subprime lender.   They hear that from everyone who is overdue.  When you originally obtained the loan, you promised (in writing) to pay ontime.  How did that work out?

"  Have had the account for less than a year, never a day late on any payment. "

That is likely another strike against you.   Your not even a year into the contract and you're already paying late.

Subprime lenders like CPS are pretty aggressive about being payed on time.   They specialize in offering credit to people with bad or no credit.   Due to the higher risk, they not only charge high interest, but they do not have a generous attitude with those who are delinquent.    This is common practice with all subprime lenders, not just CPS.

Buy a bicycle, borrow a car from a friend if need be "

That's excellent advice.   If your credit is so bad that you have to deal with a subprime lender, you probably can't afford the purchase.   With the crazy interest they charge, it usually just serves to dig your financial hole a little bit deeper.

Almost

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, December 05, 2011

When you posted "In all fairness.." I almost thought you were going to say something else.  Such as "In all fairness...you realized when you got the car loan you made a LEGAL agreement to make your payments on-time EVERY time.  Where you realized that they are just holding you to that agreement.

You are dealing with a "Sub-Prime" lender, which means you have had credit issues in the past.  And the fact that you couldn't even make it an entire year before you ran into problems shows you probably haven't learned much.  Of course sub-prime lenders are going to be less lenient because you have done nothing to show that your are being responsible.

It is always interesting how no one seems to think that they are a scam or ripoff when these sub-prime lenders allowed them to borrow the money in the first place.

Buy a bicycle, borrow a car from a friend if need be,
- In your case I highly suggest you take your own advise.  Because if you think that this company was bad, just wait until you try to get loan with a repossession on your credit.

AUTHOR: Disappointed - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, December 05, 2011

I have checked the Better Business Bureau website and see that as of November 23rd CPS has a positive A+ rating.  I can only hope that they have re-evaluated their collection/customer service practices and are now willing to work with customers on their accounts to arrive at a mutually satisfying resolution when challenges occur.
