Consumer Trust, Inc. Tried to get me to cash a counterfeit check! New York New York

Well I got a letter and check in the mail. The check was for $4,965.00. The letter said I had to call the number and activate the check. They claimed I won a home improvement grant. I don't even own a home, lol! I also didn't enter for the grant. They got my address off the internet. They said the check was to pay for taxes and fees because I actually got a grant for $39,000.00 supposedly. They want me to deposit the check and give them $3,150.00 for the taxes and fees. Then they will send me the check for the remainder of $39,000.00. I called the number they gave me about 10 times. I got through three different times. The first two time he told me to call back and he was very unprofessional. Sounded like a scam right away! Then the third time he kept me on hold so long I ended up hanging up on him. I called the bank the check was from and they said the check was valid and the account was open. They also said that account has had counterfeit checks before. The lady at the bank even told me it was probably a sceme. I read up on counterfeit checks online and found out it is a federal crime to cash it even if you didn't know it was counterfeit. So if anybody gets a check from "CONSUMER TRUST, INC." you might not want to cash the check!!!
