Below is a copy of a letter I just sent to the State of California's Attorney General (http://caag.state.ca.us/):

"Greetings,

Last month I signed up for a "Free" credit report from one of your consumerinfo.com's co-branding affiliates. After entering all of my information, I awaited the e-mail that was to instruct me on how to retrieve my report. Unfortunately the e-mail never arrived.

When I went back to the website and entered the password and login that I registered, the website responded that my account was being processed and would be ready soon. I checked back the next day and got the same message. I checked back a week letter and got the same message. At this point I figured the system was broken. I sent a message to the e-mail listed on the "contact us" page explaining the problem. I never heard back. I sent follow-up note a week later and never heard back.

Fast forward three weeks. A charge shows up on my credit card for $79.95 from CIC*Credit Monitoring Service. I did a little research and found out it was from Consumerinfo.com. I did a little more research and found out that this charge is for some kind of credit monitoring service - a service I never signed up for.

I never got my free report and I have been charged for a service I did not request, a charge that was placed without my authorization.

I have sent a letter to Consumerinfo.com instructing them to please credit my account immediately for the $79.95. I have yet to hear back from them.

After doing some online research, I discovered that thousands of consumers across the country have been defrauded. I hope that more people file a complaint with the State of California so that this company will be formally investigated.

Kindest Regards,"

Bill
