I accepted an online offer for a free kitchen knife; I was only charged for the shipping costs.  The knife arrived.
Today, I received a second kitchen knife, was told I had "joined" a kind of "knife of the month" club (I had not), and that my
credit card (how did they know my credit card number?) was being charged for $88.94.  In the cover letter was written
"You may cancel at any time by notifying us by phone," but they list no phone number or email address.  I will snd back this knife (at my expense!), and order them to remove my name from their "membership" list and refund the $88.94 to my cedit card account.  As I seee tht others have reported this same story regarding "Cooking Pleasures" of Hopkins MN, I can only presume they are a scam outfit, defrauding people by false advertising.  Should I also report them to a state or national consumer protection agency?

My Experience with Scout re Forged Steel Knives

AUTHOR: pabutler - ()

POSTED: Saturday, July 19, 2014

I had a great experience with Scout regarding the Cooking Pleasures Forged Steel Knives. Scout is the company that manages the Cooking Pleasures accounts. It was very clear when I signed up for the special, i.e. receiving a free knife with $1.00 shipping and after purchasing another knife, a free butcher block for a drawer in which to store the knives. Everything I was promised occurred. I even postponed the third knife shipment. After I received the third knife, I was also able to cancel my membership in this program. The knives are of excellent quality! I never had a problem with the customer service people at Scout. They were courteous, efficient and prompt. They asked me why I cancelled and, I told them I had received the three knives I wanted from the set and she said, if I ever wanted to continue the service to call and let them know. I would recommend this company and their offers to others.

Cooking Pleasures Knife

AUTHOR: terri - ()

POSTED: Saturday, June 21, 2014

I also got the free knife,,,I got another box in the mail I pulled the shipping lable out, Was shocked to see it was $89 knife charged to my card.

I knew nothing of this. I called them the first 3 times it was the same woman and she was rather rude to me. I took the box to the post office and wrote refused on it they took it and I watched the tracking it did not move. I watched it for 2 nomths it didn't go anywhere. In the mean time this woman was saying I would get refunded 7-10 After they get the package back.

The fourth time I called I got someone different and she refunded my money imeaditly. It took 3 days. I did not like them taking money like that.

Knife Club is cutting edge

AUTHOR: Anonymous - ()

POSTED: Saturday, June 21, 2014

I, too, accepted a free knife but it is clearly explained in sign-up (albeit "small print") that first knife is relatively free with S&H paid, then after the first knife ships, additional cutlery will arrive each month with cancellation possible at anytime.  The credit card used at time of reserving first knife (to pay S&H) is retained for billing additional purchases.  Returning an item is equivalent of calling and cancelling subscription.  The knives are heavier weight steel than average knife found in Walmart, Target or other stores and equate to pro chef-quality.  It is an affordable means of acquiring a $200-400 cutlery set over period of time.  The mini-chef knife and tomato slicer are the cat's whiskers!

Cooking Pleasures Knife Scam

AUTHOR: Tnorm - ()

POSTED: Thursday, March 06, 2014

I disagree.  The cancellation process seemed well hidden to me.  I originally was linked to them through face book/candy crush.  The confirmation e-mail I got was from scout.com and there was no contact information contained within that e-mail.  There was also no possibility to reply to that e-mail.  I found them through an extensive web search and found their 800 number.  When I did call they were friendly and happy to cancel after trying to sell me some other options.

Wonderful Customer Service

AUTHOR: rosie37 - ()

POSTED: Friday, November 15, 2013

I joined this club a month or so ago and received my soduko knife, as advertised, for only $1.00 shipping & handling. I was informed about future shipments. Unfortunately, I competely forgot the date and realized that I would not be financially capable to accept the shipment that had been already shipped and charged to my account. (Yes, it was all explained to me but had slipped my mind. I called the number listed on page 2 of the letter, spoke to a young lady who not only accommodated me with the payment for this shipment, but postponed further shipments to a date which is more conducive for me. I don't feel this is a rip-off. The knives are top quality and customer service is exceptional.

All aspects of this purchase were fully explained

AUTHOR: Ralph - ()

POSTED: Thursday, November 07, 2013

The person who wrote the original "ripoff" complaint had to be blind to the complete disclosures given by this company in the original online offer, and the material received with the first reduced price introductory shipment.

It is clear that the reduced price original knife was sent to him only after he gave them his credit card number. Every step of the process made it clear that you would receive " a shipment" from them, beginning about 4 weeks after the first introductory order.

The introductory shipment includes complete information about the process, and the phone number to cancel is clearly given in the helpful information box on page 2.

I think this company should be commended for it's forthright attention to detail. Unfortunately, the original complaintant above chose not to see any of the information offered. They surely didn't get a credit card number out of the clear blue sky. The customer gave it to them and agreed to receive future shipments, AND was given every chance to cancel with very specific information from the company.

Not a scam

AUTHOR: cameronk1 - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, August 20, 2013

If you read it all it clearly states and i quote "Do nothing and each month you'll automatically receive a brand new Cooking Pleasures Knife for only $79.99 plus $8.95 shipping and handling. Plus, up to four times a year you will automatically receive special products to preview" This was NOT a scam as it clearly stated that they will charge you.

Seems a little "scammy" but It's actually a pretty good deal.

AUTHOR: JoeR - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, July 02, 2013

I ordered this fully intending to cancel after the first $3 knife but after seing the quality of the knife, and using it, I decided to keep getting them for a couple of months at least. I agree, the tactics used seems kind of slimey but the fact is, they're offering a really quality product at a reasonable price. Their phone number included in the order confirmation. They don't seem like they're trying to hide anything.

Surprisingly Good Quality

AUTHOR: majrmjret - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, June 19, 2013

I ordered the knife at the $3 introductory shipping charge, and immediately called the company to cancel any "subscription" after the knife arrived.  This was three months ago or better, and now that I've had enough time to  test the knife, I am surprised at what a good quality piece of cutlery it is.  I fully intend to buy more knives from them - but at my rate of need.

The cancellation policy was not hidden, the customer service number worked, so my guess is the pooh-poohers didn't really try that hard to cancel the subs.

What surprises me is that anyone would honestly think you could get a knife like this for $3.  If the thing is even marginally good quality, one should suspect, as I did, there has to be a catch.  The company stood by it's intro offer, cancelled my subs when I asked, so no-one can fault them for their CS.

Love my knives

AUTHOR: Dsrtblnd48 - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, February 12, 2013

I also started getting the knives with a pay for the shipping only intro. Unlike some have reported, the guidelines were stated up front in the offer. Every 4 weeks, another knife to the set will be shipped and the average cost is between $50.00 to $100.00. I fully intended to get the introductory offer and immediately cancel my membership. That was until I received and tried my intro knife.

I LOVE this knife. It is weighted nicely, great craftsmanship and best of all......a spectacular knife. I never understood the need to spend a lot of money on a knife but after using this one, my opinion has changed drastically. Since the initial knife, I have received the chefs knife and a wooden knife holder that fits wonderfully in my kitchen drawer. I discovered today my third shipment is on its way and anxiously await its arrival!!

In summery, I truly feel the knives are worth it if you are an avid cook. They truly are a welcome addition to my kitchen. I wasn't mislead by the company in anyway. My one and only complaint is they do not have an independent website and you really aren't sure what your next shipment is until you receive it. I would love to have to ability to view their products online and know in advance what was on its way.

Cooking Pleasures

AUTHOR: HYTN - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, January 30, 2013

As a consumer, I found the company to be just the opposite to the complaint.  My experience was also a free offer that turned into a monthly membership.  My literature received from the company was very extensive in description of what I was getting and what will be shipped next.

It included color brochures and the cover letter, which had my order contained a customer service number.

I did call and spoke to very helpful representatives.  They explained again the membership program.  I did a search and found a review site for the cookware and explains that the membership is somewhat hidden.  Offers a cheaper alternative for ceramic ware at http://doesitreallywork.org/cooking-pleasures-ceramic-cookware-review.  I am enjoying it so far.

Deluxe Forged Cutlery

AUTHOR: LWA - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, January 28, 2013

I have read the report your members have sent regarding this product. I have also been taken by that "free knife" and got that response that I have just joined the "club" for the collection set!!!    I went one step farther and looked them up on the white page web and got a phone number!   I called that number, and the response I got was that it takes up to 4 weeks to cancel that order, and in the meantime you might still recieve that $89.00 knife in the collection, just return it unopened to your mail carrier and get this "It might take up to 8 weeks for to be returned for a full refund" as if!     I hope all your readers on this scam have better luck than I did!!  At least you'll be more informed by this publication. Thank-you for this opportunity to respond.                 THE PHONE #1-800-209-8397

I bought them

AUTHOR: Mrsmuduck - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 08, 2013

Hi, I bought into the membership knowing I was going to be spending $80 a month. Now I read the full acceptance. the problem I have now is that I am doing some investigating on the knives and they are selling for a lot less on Amazon and other such sites. Like the first one you bought, that is $6.99 on Amazon. I am seriously going to call these guys up, and talk to them about their outrageous prices, and see what happends. Do your research before going full head into things.
