First, I thank Ripoff Report for being there to help me and others. If I did not have this forum to find out if I'm being scammed, I may have paid this bogus fee because life is too busy to spend hours investigating. An internet site like this saves time, money and aggravation.

On April 2, 2011 my small business received an official-looking mailing with a Return Address "Corporate Controllers Unit 600 17th St, Ste 2800 South, Denver CO 80202. Business Mail - Important Notice Enclosed. This is not a Goverment Document"  yes, government is spelled wrong on the envelope.

The envelope contains an official looking "Periodic Report" and a Seal for the Corporate Controllers Unit. It states that the Colorado Corporations Code Requires Periodic Report. This is true; however, the Secretary of State truly official report is only a $10.00 fee for filing the annual report of a corporation.

The Due Date is April 15, 2011 which puts pressure on the recipient, leaves little time for a busy person to investigate the legitimacy of the document.

There is a "postage required" self-addressed envelope inside indicating that the form and your check for $225 should be mailed to PO Box 46518, which is different from the return street address on the mailing envelope.

Again, I am glad to have a place to report this at no cost and to feel good about helping others to avoid this scam.
