-My transmission went out on me the middle of December 2004, so my boyfriend at the time took it to Cottman Transmission to get it fixed. I ended up having to get a remanufatured transmission which I had to have financed. We had to put $475.00 down for the initial removal, disassemble and inspecton.

When the paperwork was all taken care of with the finance company and I had a signed contract in my hands - Shawn Mejia kept telling us we owed them an extra $500.00 for a lifetime warranty. (He messed up on the prices - which he confessed to - but since I had a signed contract I didn't feel I was responsible for that - it was his fault) I told him I didn't owe them anymore than what was stated on the signed contract and he kept telling my boyfriend we still owed the extra money. Never once did Shawn contact me regarding this matter!!!

Well, in March, 2005 I was in the process of taking my family (I am a single parent of 4) on a vacation and my transmission locked up on me. I had to have it towed back to Mesa to Cottmans and they fixed it for me. Within 2 weeks I was back at their shop because the transmission was leaking. This time I dealt with a gentleman named Tim. They had to order a part from Ford so it took longer this time!!! At this point I was starting to get pretty upset with them. It was the third time I had to bring it back and I had been losing out on work and taking my kids to school each time I had to have my van in the shop!! The warranty doesn't cover a rental so I was having to get rides back and forth from friends and family!

For what you have to pay to get a transmission fixed-I think it should be done right the first time!!!!!
And now it is the beginning of April (6th) and I had to take it back in because it is shaking when it shifts. Having to bring my van into Cottman's for the forth time in less than four month is pretty upsetting and it surely doesn't look good on them. I would never recommend them to anyone!!! I feel they are dishonest, rude, a big ripoff and they like to take advantage of woman because they think woman don't know what it is all about!

He got away just in time

AUTHOR: Joe - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, May 12, 2005

Shelly~~It seems that Robert Lyons got away just in time~~Its common for people who owe money to find fault with everything after they get what they need. With (4) kids money i'm sure is not abundant but honesty should not be compromised~~~Just because robert is not in the picture he fronted whatever was nesssary for you to get the car to drive as you paid. This i see as trust in your ability to keep your promise. When you brought back the car and the issues were taken care of you got the car back and still owed money~~~How much do you think the shop invested to keep their promise?~~Then you post something here about somebody else~~~Why?~~~~~~Think about this~~~~~ YOUR WORD IS ONE OF THE THINGS YOU CAN GIVE AND KEEP AT THE SAME TIME~~~~~~THE TRANZMN

Not quite true, Jery

AUTHOR: Jason - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, April 22, 2005

Jery, you have a definate bone to pick with Cottman. A transmission contains a multitude of parts, any ONE of which that fails can cause problems.

According to the gentleman from Mesa, the transmission was NOT rebuilt by Cottman, the transmission was a remanufactured transmission, which I would guess means that they purchased it and installed it, they did no other work on it. Within a short period of time, the remanufactured transmission failed and Cottman stood behind the work and repaired it. Later still, a leak developed which was probably an oversight by Cottman, but again was repaired at no cost. Precisely what a good business should do. So, first failure post-Cottman not the fault of Cottman, but the fault of a bad remanufactured transmission which I believe they purchased and went through QC at the company that remanufactured the transmission, so the fault is with that company. The second one is a leak which IS the fault of Cottman, but they did the right thing by fixing it.

From what I am hearing here, this Cottman location has gone above and beyond.

your right - she is wrong about the bill - still no excuse for faulty tranny reapirs that fails

AUTHOR: Jery - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, April 22, 2005

As you can see, even in the words of cottman transmission, the tranny failed several times???? Why is that? What if the bill was paid in full or properly financed..... still no excuse for faulty tranny reapirs that fails

Seems to me, in my opinion, another franchise with repair work on a tranny and the tranny needing repairs AFTER it was "fixed". The reapir facility reveales it themselves!

The Truth age color gender or social status does not have any bearing on the final price of a transmission repair bill

AUTHOR: Shawn - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, April 20, 2005

First of all age color gender or social status does not have any bearing on the final price of a transmission repair bill. The only two factures involved are transmission type, and the amount of damage the customer has done to the transmission.

Shelly Keifer's boyfriend at the time Robert Lyons had told me he was going to take care of the cost of the repair for Shelly as a favor because she had no money, and I was to only deal with him. Robert gave me all the authorizations for the repair of 97 ford windstar.

When it was time to pay for the repairs Robert Lyons said he had no money and would need financing. After submitting there credit app to well know finance companies they where declined due to poor money management and not paying there monthly bills. So to go out of my way and still help them out we deal with a high-risk finance company that would help them out. That was as long as a lien was put on the title of the 97 ford windstar. The loan amount maximum was approximately $900.00 less then what was owed on the repair bill. Robert Lyons scrapped together $400.00. Cottman was nice enough to release the vehicle with the remaining balance owed to Cottman of $500.00 as long as Robert Lyons came in weekly and made minimal payments.

When no payments were made I tried to contact Robert Lyons with no success. I then contacted Shelly Keifer and was rudely told on the phone that Robert Lyons left her and stuck her with the payments. Shelly Keifer also said she was not going to pay the remaining balance on her repair bill.

Shortly after a parts failure in the transaxle caused the windstar not to move. As our company always does is stand behind it work 100%. Even though Shelly Keifer has still not paid us the remaining balance on her repair bill. 18 days later a leak occurred in the front of the Transmission. Again Cottman stood behind their work and made necessary repairs at no charge to Shelly Keifer.

By law the vehicle should have never left Cottman premises until balance was paid in full.

Shelly Keifer is driving in a 97 ford windstar with no drivability issues and a remaining balance of $500.00 owed to Cottman. In this case I believe Cottman Transmission of mesa is the one getting RIPPED OFF
