I broke down in Bakersfield California and took my car to Cottmans Transmissions. I was told they have a "nationwide warranty" and excellent customer service.
After a week I was told my car was ready to pick up and was billed $2516.68 for a complete rebuilt transmission. That was in June of 2000. Here it is January of 2002 and I have NEVER had my car for more than 2 weeks without the transmission going out again. I live 350 miles from Bakersfield, there is another Cottman's right near my home, but the "nationwide warranty" the advertise is false. All you can do is call the shop that did the work originally and they decide what to do with your car. They have had my car 7 times. They come and pick it up (when they feel like it) it has sat waiting to be picked up for as much as 2 weeks. They trailer it back to Bakersfield and then they keep it for a week or 2 and return it. They have supposedly rebuilt the transmission 3 times. It still does not work.
They then installed it with the incorrect bolts, stripping out the engine black and REFUSED to fix that at all so my starter falls out. That extra repair cost me $1050.47
I have yet to get an apology and their EXCELLENT customer service just told me they cannot do anything but let them know I complained. I told her I was going to report them to the Beter Business and sue them and she said "do what you have to do, I have done all I can."
In closing. Cottman's does not stand by their work or there warranty. I would NEVER recommend anyone take their car there and BEWARE.
