CountryWide advertises that they will help people with any type of credit and this seem to be true when I first contacted them. We dealt with a very friendly and helpful person who assured us that we met the all of the qualifications and that we would soon be able to refinance our home and get a home equity line of credit also.

The person then asked us for a good faith deposit of $300 which my wife gave on her credit card. My wife and I both climbed thru loops gathering information that was needed to close the loan.

I then didn't hear anything from our agent and got concerned. When he called me, the next day, he informed me that he couldn't help us and that he was sorry. When I told my wife, she cried (this is about one week before Christmas) as we were hoping to make a major repair on our home. This really tore my heart out to see her and I felt helpless to try and correct the situation.

We have since found a line of credit with another bank and I called CountryWide and spoke to my agent to ask for a refund of my wife's $300. Our agent again apologized and said that he would not be able to refund our money.

I then asked to speak with his supervisor and all I get is a voice mail. I have left a message, but no returned phone call.

It's a sad day when a big corporation bank steals $300 from a hard working person. I will do whatever it takes to get my wife's money back for her and I recommend everyone to avoid CountryWide as they are not worth doing business with.

Good Faith Deposit refunded

AUTHOR: Walt - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, August 26, 2007

Just an update for anyone who was in the same position as my wife and I were. After numerous phone calls to CountryWide and registered letters to CountryWide, I am glad to report that my wife and I did receive our money back. CountryWide cried that this is an appraisal fee, but I don't recall seeing an appraiser come to my house. Meanwhile my wife and I were successfull in getting our home equity loan to fix our roof and get a new furnace. I have one mortgage with countrywide and as soon as I can, it will get refinanced!

I now see,(Benjamin) that Countrywide is now charging you for making payments over the internet (when does it stop!!??). You get your money securely, and on time and charge your customers for it. Only one word comes to mind when I hear or see a CountryWide ad and that is ROBBERY!! I stand by my previous comments, CountryWide is not worth doing business with, avoid at all cost.

$300 is not a good faith deposit

The $300 good faith deposit you are talking about is not a good faith deposit at all. It is the cost of an appraisal, which isnt put in place by Countrywide, but by our appraisal company Landsafe. It is the cost to have someone come out and appraise your property. Any company you would contact to have come out and do an official appraisal is going to charge you for their service.
