I had the pleasure of working for this 'lovely' company for nearly seven years. During these years - I was shafted for over 300 hours. (After my calling their attention to this through numerous phone calls, faxes, inquiries, they claimed they'd pay me retroactively) Two years later and I'm still waiting on that check!

Once, I was informed of a next day 'mandatory staff meeting' by our newly transferred general manager. This just happened to overlap my prenatal checkup with the Doctor. Explaining this minutes after receiving notice of said meeting, I was informed that I was to either "show up or be fired".

The icing on the cake for this company is that they employ prisoners on work release. It was so nice knowing I, a 22 yr old female, worked right along side two convicted rapists.

I have many more stories to share regarding this pathetic excuse for an employer, but I think you get the idea.

Good Riddance, Cracker Barrel

...and I'm still waiting on that check!

HOUSE OF REHAB/ JAIL HOUSE ROCK/REBUTTAL

AUTHOR: Cherie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, May 05, 2009

Heather, yes you are 100% right. You never know what type of person you are standing next to. I have met many nice people working for Cracker Barrel yet, they are considered to be the HOUSE OF REHAB. After Katrina, my boss hired thugs. Not one,the entire group. After working with Mike Greer at loss prevention and reporting to our local law enforcement, help came my way. It took time. You need to have many street smarts to keep up with some of the crew. Thanks to a very strong co-worker that has background in dealing with Jail House Rock People, she defused the issue. This co-worker has worked in the Parish and worked with all types. Kind of has the tec needed to read problems before it happens. I thank her. My 5 years of server/trainer with Cracker Barrel ,never did send me on the job training courses dealing with rap sheet people. Safety is the issue that Cracker Barrel needs much help with. They never sent me a check on my reports. Lady, life is a challenge to walk into the door everday at Cracker Barrel. I have no clue why they waste time printing rules and posters to protect us. You get very tired trying to make a buck and wonder if you will live to spend it! I understand. ~Cherie~ Covington,Louisiana

I worked for a Cracker Barrel in WV for almost 2 years. My tipping point was that a manager was trying to make me wait to leave when my ride was leaving becuase i did not roll any silverware. I would have rolled it if we had any. All the silverware in the entire restaurant was rolled save 10 sets that were being used by guests eating at the time. So you have 6 servers waiting on 10 sets of silverware to clean and roll them. He told me I had to wait or lose my job. SO I walked out.

Cracker Barrel is a discriminatory and disgusting place to work. I too, am 22 years old, and worked at Cracker Barrel for two years. During this time, I was

- Screamed at and embarrassed in front of my coworkers because a table I was serving on a busy night walked out on their check,

- sick with the flu one day, I was told to bring in a doctors' note or be fired; I'm wondering how it is possible to schedule a doctors' visit for under 100.00 on a Cracker Barrel waitress' salary when one's company does not provide health insurance,

- witnessed a "General Manager" gossiping to servers and cooks about another server's mental condition, which should have remained personal and confidential information,

- referred TWO employees in the time span I worked there and was NEVER imbursed for the promised 200.00 I was supposed to receive, even after many emails and phone calls to the head office, and

there's many more, but here's the kicker.

On my first day, my VERY FIRST DAY, the manager screamed at me, in the top of his lungs, because I didn't know how to place a to-go order. It was certainly embarrassing and humiliating and I, and my other coworkers, never forgot the incident.

This place is a hellhole. I have reported Cracker Barrel to the Better Business Bureau in hopes that someone will hear my stories.
