On 2/14/07 I called Doug Rowe (owner of Crankshaft Specialist, Memphis TN) to order a crankshaft for a high performance motor. At that time my motor was in the shop and I was stuck trying to find a replacement for my broken crank. I called Crank Shaft Specialist and was told that he had one (1) in stock and another was to arrive at his shop the next day. I told him that I'd take both parts and to send it right out becuase I desperately needed the parts "yesterday". He said he'd 'NEXT DAY' the part as soon as he received my payment (that's fair enough). I 'UPS NEXT DAY' a Bank Draft to him for the parts, UPS Tracking J167 3182 265. The check was for jobs #45326 and #45327. Each crank was considered seperate purchases.

2/16/07 - UPS delivered check to Crankshaft Specialist

2/19/07 - Federal Holiday (Banks closed)

2/20/07 - check cleared Bank of America Memphis, so I expected the crank to go out since I made it very clear that I and the machine shop were waiting for the parts.

2/22/07 - called Doug to get the status and to get a Tracking Number of the parts, he said he'd check and would call me back. (no call back)

2/23/07 - called Doug for tracking number. Again, was told he'd get it and call me right back. I called later that evening only to told that he was not in the office.

2/26/07 - called, he answered and told me to hang on. Was left ON-HOLD for over 30 minutes before I hung up.

2/27/07 - called again, no one would answer the phone. Voicemail only.

2/28/08 - called, no success. I FAXED a cancellation request for job #45327 and a refund for that crank only. Job #45326 was still needed. I received a call from Doug the same day saying that the cranks were sent to the wrong address and I would "have them in a of days" (ETA - 3/2/07)

3/5/07 - NO PARTS, called Doug to get tracking number and to inquire about my refund. He said the usual "I'll get that number for you and the refund check is in the mail and was sent to my home address". No call back.

3/7/07 - called Doug and he now says that the parts came back to his shop and he'll "Red Label" them to me that day and I'd have it in hand tomorrow. He also said that he'll put the refund check in the box with the single crank. [This is the same check that he said was already mailed on 3/5]

3/9/07 - called Doug, he said it went out on 3/8...not 3/7 like promised and it was sent UPS Ground (not UPS RED Label which is NEXT DAY). On this say day, the machine shop called to tell me that Doug Rowe of Crankshaft Specialist just called to verify the ZIP code...meaning, he was just sending the crank out. It's 3/9 (Friday), I most likely won't get it until Tuesday, but this guy told me it went out last Thursday (3/8). He also gave me a bogus tracking number.

3/12/07 - called Doug to get a valid tracking number. At that time he stated that the refund check for one of the cranks was NOT put in the box that was shipped, but was sent to my home address (again).

3/13/07 - YES! Crank was received at the shop where my motor was. When it was unwrapped, they noticed that it had the wrong size (that I needed) stamped on the side of it. They measured it and sure enough, I got the WRONG size crank. Not only was it the wrong size, but the part was not usable in terms of quality/finish. I called Doug and he eventually said that I was sent the wrong part. I told him that I was done. Send a UPS Call Tag for the return of this crank and refund all of my money.

3/15/07 - called about my refund(s) and Call Tag. REceived the norm of "check should be there by Friday 3/16/07).

3/19/07 - called again, still no check or Call Tag

3/20/07 - FAXED request for FULL REFUND

3/27/07 - Opened case with Midsouth BBB

4/9/07 - Call Tag pickup for crank at the shop UPS #1Z 305 746 26 4084 6093

4/11/07 - received call from Doug asking that I call of the BBB and that he'd send me the money that he owes me.

4/13/07 - BBB closed the case as UNANSWERED

4/13/07 - Opened case with Tennessee Department of Consumer Affairs

5/10/07 - TN Department of Consumer Affairs sent a certified letter to Doug Rowe request a resolution to this complaint. Coincidently, Doug called and said that I'll have my money by 5/12/07.

5/15/07 - no check, TN Department of Consumer Affairs stated that another call will be placed and he has until 5/30/07 to respond, otherwise he'd be put on the DO NOT BUY FROM list.

5/15/07 - notified an Attorney in Memphis to get the ball rolling on really getting my money back.

Current - at this time, Doug Rowe has lied to me and his own attorney as far as him going to send the money. He admits that he owes the money to me, but will not honor his own words, even though I returned his merchandise. This guy is without a doubt, the biggest crook that I've ever had the displeasure of talking to.

You're exactly right, "tis the season". I've talked to Doug and he's done nothing be lied to me over and over again. He's even lied to his Registerd Agent (that my Attorney contacted), so who's the one that's wrong here?

I tell you what...since he's so neighborly to you, how about you have him refund the money to you and you can forward it to me? Let's see if that works for you? I'll be more than happy to email you copies of ANYTHING that you want that will prove this guy to be a liar. Seriously, you're here defending this guy and if you GOOGLE his company's name you'll see (for yourself) just how neighborly and honest he really is.

I've lost my money to him and his lies. All I can do is warn other people of this crook! If you think that you can assist in this matter, I'd be MORE than happy to work this out with you. I can be reached at jrrmason (AOL account). As you can see, I'm not hiding anything and I'm 100% in the right...but was done 110% wrong. All I want is my initial investment that I sent him. Keep in mind that I returned the crank that he sent that was JUNK and it was the WRONG stroke too! I've been totally honest with this guy...TOTALLY! Let's see if you can get him to do the neighborly this and post the results here.

The Crankshaft Specialist Have Left!!!!!!

Johnny Kirk, the TRUE CRANKSHAFT SPECIALIST have left the company. He left about a month ago. He gave his 50% ownership to Doug Rowe. Not sold, but gave. This should tell you something. He could not get his paychecks cashed. Johnny will be starting at Lunati starting January. He is the true crankshaft specialist, one of the best in the business. So anybody that needs the great work of Johnny Kirk, should give Lunati a try. It is just a matter of time before the door closes at Crankshaft Specialist. There are no specialists left, just Doug, his wife, and their son.

I have been a customer of Doug Rowes company since 1970 and have always been treated fairly on honestly with the place I worked for before and now my own machine shop. Doug manages things mostly himself. He always calls you back but it may take a while. You get personal service and since you do and everyone else you have to wait. If you want catalog stuff with the junk from China, go call a catalog.

Yeah, stuff may get misplaced and you get it late but it will be right when you get it. That is the price you pay for good work. I get people hollaring about the price because I did what they needed. Once they understand I am not out to get them, just want to finish the work correctly, they back off. If a guy can relax and work with others he will come out ahead, with the problem, with his life and with his maker. Why don't you forget all the complaints and work on a solution? This fellow is not out to mess with his customers or we regular people would not depend on him like we do.

Man, this is the season of Thanksgiving, be thankful you are not sick, and it is the season of Hanukah and Christmas, smile and figure out what you have to do to get your mill back in operation and making a lot of noise. I have never met Doug in person but he treats you like his neighbor. May we all do the same?

Police Report

Police Narrative: The victim victim contacted the Economic Crimes Bureau and advised that he was referred to Doug Rowe at Crankshaft Specialists, as a place he could buy a 4340 billet steel 3.75" Stroker crankshaft for his 4.3L V6 truck; who stated that he had 2 of the crankshafts sitting on his shelf. The suspect Doug Rowe agreed to sell the crankshaft to the victim Mansayon at a lowered price of $1791.00 including shipping. Christopher sent the $1791.00 to Doug in the form of a check (check #173) on December 21, 2005. Doug told Christopher that his order number was # and that the part would arrive in 12-16 weeks. Christopher waited for his part to arrive from Doug at Crankshaft Specialists, but it never came. Christopher attempted to contact Doug on February 24, 2006, and left a message for him. Christopher never received a reply. Christopher tried several more times leaving messages on voice mail and with a Secretary at Crankshaft Specialists. Doug told Christopher he had been sent the wrong crankshaft and was waiting on the correct one and then would ship it. After many attempts at dealing with Doug, Christopher finally accepted an offer from Doug to just get a refund. Doug never sent the check.

You are correct. Doug Rowe is a crook, but in more ways than you can imagine. Alot of "under-the-table" cash transactions. The IRS is getting closer. He is unable to provide refunds because the money goes directly up his nose. Terrible cocaine habit. He not only cheats his customers, he's cheated his employees and his long-time partner. He honestly thinks these folks can continue to work with/for him, yet they are unable to cash their paychecks.

It is just a matter of time before he gets busted.

Doug Rowe stated that he would refund the money but had NO intention of ever honoring his word. As agreed, I told him that I'd update this site should he send the money as promised. He gave me his "word on being in the business for over 30 years". Obviously I have not received anything from him and his word(s) mean JACK SQUAT! ANY...and I do mean ANY lawyer that can assist in this matter, don't hesitate to contact me ASAP! I want my money back and I'm determined to get it.

I cannot understand why the Tennessee Attorney General Office has not shut this crook down by now. He's been on their list for years as well as the Mid South BBB.

I called Crankshaft Specialist today (9/17/07). He stated that if I removed my complaint from this site, that he'd send the refund. My response to him was, I will update this site the day that I receive my FULL refund. Let's see what happens between now and Friday (9/21/07).
