On 9/26/03 my fiance got a call from a credit repair company on his company cell phone. It was from someone who would be able to offer him a gold visa card w/a $2000 limit if he would authorize an automatic withdrawl of $299 from our checking account.
As we are having trouble with the customer service end of the credit card that we currently have and he is fed up with them, he thought that it would be a great idea. He called me at work and told me about the great deal he had just made and when I asked him what bank they were affiliated with he hesitated....seems that they never told him. He gave me their number and I called. I spoke with a young man who gave me his web site information (that doesn't exist by the way) and when I commented that I didn't like people taking money out of my checking account he hung up on me.
When my internet search revealed only this website - I called my fiance and told him - he was very upset at having been "swindled" and proceeded to try to get his ach cancelled. He was told that he wouldn't be able to cancel his application until Monday - when his file was at their office. Not good enough for me, so I called - spoke with a young girl and was again hung up on (seems to be a pattern).
Now, I have been assured that if I call on Monday that all will be taken care of, but after reading all this - I am not so sure. My bank (whom I called immediately after all this came to lite) will charge me $20.00 to stop payment on this - however I do not have an actual name for them to put in to flag the withdrawl - all I can do is monitor my account and dispute it when it is taken. If I do it within 24 hrs of the withdrawl they will credit it back to my account as a disputed withdrawl.
It seems to me that my only recourse will be to close my checking account and reopen a new one. The kicker is - we just opened this account - we are in "recovery" and are trying to build a good life together. The new checking account was one of the largest steps either one of us has taken - and now because of someone who has decided it easier to rip people off than actually work for a living my entire financial life is turned upside down.
I believe that now is the time for someone to do something about this "man" and his company. I for one will do all that I can to see that he is reported to every agency on the continental united states. Wonder why Primetime Live hasn't done anything on them yet???
