I cannot believe the nerve of Cricket Wireless phone service.
I have been out of work for 6 months. In May of 2008, I could not make my monthly payment on the 21st of the month. My service was discontinued on the 22nd.
On June 2, I went to a Cricket store and reactivated my service. I thought that my service would cover June 2 through July 2, etc. I even made an additional payment to cover the month of August 2 through September 2.
Cricket is now telling me that I am not going to get the service that I paid for!
They are telling me that my service for August will end on the 22nd of August per. my original starting date over one year ago. I matters not to them that I restarted my service on June 2.
Now, I will not have phone service for the week August 21 through September 2. Not good considering that I have possible employers who will be calling me on the number that I have used.
The rep at Cricket told me that I should have discontined my service and then restarted it on June 2. They never told me that at the time!!
Surely there is a state agency that I can contact.

So why did they not pro rate the bill?

So , he gets a couple weeks service because of a due date? I believe that is called "overcharging". He should have been pro-rated, not charged the full amount. Cricket ripped him off, plain and simple. I have been ripped off by Cricket a few times, and they do it because they can.
Cricket claims to give people with poor credit a chance to have a cell phone; however, we pay a HUGE price for it. We get financially exploited by them by the overcharging, hidden fees, and I have even had Cricket charge me TWICE one month, because they had"no record" of my payment. I could not find the receipt. I have NEVER had this happen anywhere. I started saving my receipts like they were gold, and lo and behold, they pulled it again. Cut me off for non-payment, but this time I had something for them (the receipt). Like I said I have NEVER had a company pull this crap.
(Please read my report...it has all of the info listed)

Yes, you could have restarted service, but.....

First of all, this is not all Cricket's fault. Yes, you COULD have restarted your service, but it MIGHT have cost you more.
To explain what happens:
1) Your bill is due on the 21st of each month (it does NOT change).
2) If you do NOT pay your bill by that date, service will be temporarily suspended UNTIL you pay for your bill IN FULL.
3) If you pay your bill in full AFTER the due date, service will be restored, but you will KEEP the SAME due date (depending on where your service is, you may or may not pay a $15.00 "late fee").
If you would have followed the CSR's instructions, you COULD have restarted your service, but your first account would need to have disconnected completely, which takes 60 days from the LAST date your account was suspended. Therefore, you would have had to restart service AFTER July 22nd (NOT June 2nd).
All this is explained on Cricket's website under "FAQs" > Billing
