I was contacted by phone on June 11, 2008, by a woman who said that she was calling because I had requested more information on Broderbund products. I did download some software about a month ago from the above named company that I like very much, so I was interested when she spoke of Broderbund.

When discussing computers and supplies, etc, she asked me a question; something to the affect of: What do you think you use the most of? to which I immediately responded, "ink jets". She then told me that I would receive up to 80% off of name brand HP inkjets on their website. She also said that the generic, or off-brand; I don't recall exactly what she said; those jets would be somewhere around $4-$5 each if I decided to use them instead. When I reached the website, I discovered that the HP jets were very nearly as expensive as what I usually pay for them at Walmart; and the generic jets were "remanufactured" and alot more expensive than she told me.

She said that they stock all supplies I'd need for the computer, including printer paper. We talked about my 18-year-old son who will be starting college late this summer; he's an art major. She said that they would be able to supply everything he would need for his classes in the line of software. When I checked the website, everything I saw was very much outdated, and I saw nothing that I felt would help him in college.

I feel that everything she told me about their offers was untrue. I was totally disappointed and I feel very much cheated and deceived. What I thought was going to be a great experience actually turned out to be a pain.... I emailed them late that evening; possibly very early the next AM, told them what I had discovered and demanded the immediate cancellation of my membership and the immediate refund of the $19.99 that they took out of our checking account. They replaced the money and then I felt bad about chewing them out, so I emailed them and apologized for being angry; I said nothing about what they did being RIGHT. And in an attempt to be a Christian witness to them, I sent them a Christian flash-ecard. When I checked the account again today, they had taken the money back out; without my consent.

I emailed them back this evening and once again insisted that they immediately cancel my membership and refund the money to our account immediately. I have yet to follow up on this to see if anything has changed.
