I applied for an internship on monster.com with CTEC ACADEMY; after reviewing their website, and not finding negative info.

Shortly afterward, was contacted by a Tonya Maden at 770.422.1102. Who in formed me that I was in the final stages to be considered for an internship targeting displaced or industry impacted workers, costing $14,000, and would be placed in a job by a sponsoring company. I was asked a series of questions about my current employment, and skill sets. I informed them that I was working, doing only part time/contract work and available. If approved, would be receiving an email to that fact, if not, call back. A week later, I had not received an email.

About ten days later, I received a letter from SLM Financial Corporation (Sterling Bank), claiming I was denied a credit application based on Temporary or irregular employment, and I could apply in twenty days with a co-borrower, and that their decision was based on Experian credit service's information.

Here's the rub, I never applied for this credit with/through CTEC Academy or anyone else, and can provided my own financing at any time.

I contacted SLM Financial at 888.272.5543, which answers as SallyMae servicing, and are formerly SallyMae the quasi-governmental group, now turned private. I was informed that they (SLM) are not responsible for loan requests. Yet, you can find SLM on ctecacademy's website under financing. I was told if there are problems I should contact the local police or BBB; though there may be jurisdictional issues.

I then reviewed my Credit Report online, SLM Financial Corp, had probed my credit on 06/04/2004, claiming it was a Real Estate Loan.

I looked a bit more in to this, and attempted to speak to ctecacademy, they would not call me back, and BBB has had complaints in the past, yet would not disclose the information.

Since following up on this, I have discovered there are a numbers of websites which have chronicled CTEC Academy's ongoing activities and the inquiries of the public.

I will be following up on this this leads me to believe that CTECT ACADEMY and SLM acted in concert to tap my credit for $15,995.00.

In my opinion CTEC ACADEMY operates comparatively as a scamtrolling for students/enrollment based on credit reports.

CTEC Academy Student

AUTHOR: Rebecca - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, August 06, 2004

I will try to keep this short, but I have some very strong feelings on CTEC academy. First of all, I did in fact attend a two-week boot camp MCSE training in Marietta, GA at CTEC Academy. I went through the same process as listed above and decided to give it a chance and take the risk. While I regret ever going, I do have good and bad comments regarding the company.
1. It does exist and they do provide valid Microsoft training.
2. The loan that I took out for this training cost me $12,000 which INCLUDES air fare to Atlanta and back home, Microsoft training for two weeks by a certified Microsoft Professional Trainer, hotel and accomodations (no food) for two weeks, $1,000 spending money, a brand new dell laptop (Value of aprox $3,000), laptop carrying case, training material valued at about $7,000 (their aproximation - I think I was not that much), Microsoft training materials (books, cds, and videos) valued at at least $500+, and Microsoft testing fees. The good thing about the testing fees is that as long as you do these pre-exams on your laptop, CTEC will pay for you to take the MS exams as many times as necessary as it takes to pass them. (Each cost around $125 and there are 7 exams for the MCSE).
3. They supposedly will find you a 30 day apprentiship in your local area after you complete your certification. This was originally fed to me as my 30 day apprentiship will start upon returning from the training and a majority of apprentiships lead to full-time employement. THIS IS NOT TRUE. They will only find you an apprentiship after you complete your certification and they make NO GUARENTEE that you will be hired on for that apprentiship.

However, the paperwork that I signed in agreement to attend stated that I would be Guarenteed life-time job placement assistance. This is crap because all that means is that they will send your resume out to recuriters. That is the only assistance they will provide.

To sum things up, if you are considering attending CTEC, make sure that you are serious about being Microsoft Certified. Do not depend on finding a job immediately after returning home from training. I received two years to complete all training and testing as CTECs cost (in case it changes in the future) and I plan on milking as much training as possible. I take the exams when I am ready and if I don't pass, I take them again and it's not out-of-pocket in my expense.

Plan on hearing a lot of sales retoric from the "recruiters" and don't necessary believe everything that they are telling you. If you are questioning anything that sounds too good to be true, email me and I will let you know what it is really like. All in all - if you want to take out the Sallie Mae loan for the training, the cost you will incure from CTEC is the same or at least no more than you would pay for equalivant training, materials and travel.
