I have so much to write about as I know too much dirt about this company. It has been said that CTL is a good company to get your start as a tanker driver but that's not the case now. CTL had a very lucrative phosphate contract for the past 40 years but lost it in Oct 2012. By the end of Nov 2012 CTL and parent company Comcar Industries were in dire financial straights big time! By the end of 2012 early 2013, I'm estimating my salary took at least a $250 per week nose dive if not more.
When I was hired, CTL paid all miles loaded and unloaded which is unusual for a trucking company as well as being reimbursed for showers but that went away too all in the name of "saving money". Here's my question; if Comcar is so hard up for money why hadn't Mark Bostik the owner of Comcar and Ken Bauer the president of CTL been the leaders they claim to be and took a pay cut first. All drivers, dispatchers and company mechanics had their pay cut arbitrairily. These 3 groups of people are the ones that bring in the revenue for CTL so the top people can have their 7 figure per year take home pay and have money left over for Comcar to waste.
Comcar and CTL refuse to replace the aging tractors so their cure for raggety tractors is to continue to pour $$ down a black hole on an aging and new fleet that's unreliable. Their maintenance budget is $12,000 per month but the actual figures for May were $38,000 and $42,000 for Junel and this company is content with wasting $$$ on worn out used up tractors.
CTL stopped paying for all miles probably about a year ago and is now only paying drivers one way meaning loaded miles only. I have the driver copies to prove that.
CTL Mobile terminal is rampant with E.O. violations and come to find out it has been company wide for many years. I see so much favoritism and preferential treatment there's too much to list but that's the way CTL operates and they'll deny it too; typical trucking company though admit nothing, deny everything.
Local leadership; the old terminal manager, John Kays, is a crook and CTL moved him to LA to continue being crooked so in comes Don Buford the new manager. Whoever Don dealt with in the hiring process lied to him when he was told that "CTL is a steallar company that cares about their drivers". Nothing could be further from the truth and Don believed it hook, line and sinker.
Liz Pownall, the one dispatcher fully supports the CTL good ol' boy system and ensures certain drivers and all the trainers have the good runs that pay decent. Worthless John Wentworth, driver turned office boy is absolutly stupid and has his head up Don Buford's backside so far its brown now instead of white. My opinion is that John is brown nosing enough to be the terminal manager. God help that terminal if he becomes manager and wouldn't suprise me if he was moved to be a terminal manager which would be something that I'd expect CTL to do.
In summation, Comcar Industries has 5 subsidaries, CTL(chemical), CT(flatbed), WSE(refrigerated), CCC(non-refrigerated van), and MCT( non-refrigerated van); stay away from this company at all costs; you'll wished you had!

Dear Mr. Boom,
I'm glad you're making money with Comcar I really am. I made some decent wages when I first started working for Comcar until CTL lost the phosphate contract they had for 40 years in Mulberry and all the big money stopped overnight. Comcar has no credit with their vendors as everything must be paid cash in advance which has been going on right at two years. As the son of a small businessman, that throws up a big red flag! I did talk to the shop often which is where I gathered my information not just heresay; plainly put Comcar is broke and they're doing whatever to keep the doors open as long as that hobby horse will ride. When I found that out about how Comcar has to buy shop supplies, I started looking for a job more earnestly.
Let me address the work ethic complaint; I pulled a lot of rabbits out of my hat more than once for local dispatch. I was overdispatched so many times it was unbelieveable and was compelled to drive tired more than once. I even endured a violent tongue lashing from my dispatcher because I needed to push on through the Friday Baton Rouge rush hour to bring the Port Neches load to the yard whether I was going to run out of my 70 hours or not it had best be brought to the yard. I made my delivery the next day legally and had 45 minutes left on my 70 when I arrived at the terminal. Had I done what dispatch told me to do, I would've run out of workweek at Biloxi which would've robbed manpower to recover my assigned tractor and deliver the load but I took care of it legally. No laws were broken, no violations were issued, Evonik received their delivery on time and I went home and reset. It don't drop a load at the yard for somelse to deliver unless I can't help it.
Your response Sir.

I have worked for CTL for several years in the mobile office I personally have made more as my time driving has went on. It is my personal experience if you show a willingness to work and do not just go through the motions you can make a living with this company. I personally have not seen favoritism like I said as long as you have a good work ethic you can make money. Maybe you don't have the work the work ethic to make money with CTL.
