Let me describe my negative and abusive experience with Culinary Staffing in Los Angeles, Ca on Melrose ave. This is a staffing agency that has food servers, cooks and catering that work at three to five star establishments. Randy is the owner who is very hostile and rude to the people that seek employment from her agency and it trickles down to the people who work in the office.
The first day I went there I filled out all the necessary paper work as I communicated with the staffing director Dan Stone, he seemed pleasant and willing to give me opportunity in the beginning, but the following day I returned for orientation only to witness a very different attitude in him. I was upbeat and friendly as I walked in; he kept his back to me, until I said "good morning" only then he slightly turned around and gave no response. Two minutes later a white guy walks in the office to join the orientation and Dan Stone jumps off his seat to greet this person and shake his hand. This young man is a contractor just like I am we are on the same level. It was obvious to me, at that point Dan Stone is a racist. This company emails all events as they come in, so the challenge is checking email all the time to book so I can obtain work, which was working out fine. Previous to this I noticed the following day after orientation I still had not received my user name and password so I could NOT log into the portal to pick up the assignments. I called and ask Dan about this, and right then he sent it to me, but made an excuse at the same time of why it probably wasn't sent. This is something he should have given all employees at the orientation, but instead he only accommodated one white guy who was sitting in orientation with his username and password, already I seen this as a "red flag".
A couple of days later I was able to book work for the following week and one day I went to login and noticed I was locked out, not one person in the office called or notified me of why this occurred. I called and left a voice message for Dan and he never bothered calling me back. Later in the day I sent an email letting someone know I was locked out and couldn't get into the portal. This email went to the owner Randy only for her to react with a nasty hostile response, telling me she doesn't understand the message and that having an unexpired CDL is not acceptable. It was very obvious she is the one who locked me out and did not bother communicating this to me.
First of all if this is a person who owns and runs a company you think she would be more thorough before making accusations at people. She obviously has a problem communicating with her staff and with people who work for her, if so she would have known my CDL was not expired but currently renewed from the DMV, which I provided proof of to Dan Stone and it (WASN'T NOT A PROBLEM) which was more than acceptable knowing it has the state seal on the paper work.
Does she bother to ask of course not, did Dan do his job and make this clear to others who work in the office, of course not, knowing their imputing this information. I spoke to a woman Alicia who was the only helpful and courteous person and corrected the problem. So a couple days later pass and I get a voice mail asking about my ID again. What the hell is wrong with these people? Why are they not communicating with each other so these problems don't occur?
It gets better I just recently graduated with a BA degree only to have Dan Stone send me jobs via email to be a dishwasher!! Finally I get an assignment for the Intercontinental Hotel in Century City which was for the whole summer supposedly. I worked on night which was a great place and the people were very nice. The following morning I called the agency (which is there emergency line) just to ask if they knew the pay rate for that job because it wasn't stated on my assignment via email, like it usually is. This woman who sounds like a man, began to argue with me, asking what is your pay rate? I had no idea what she was referring to. I also couldn't understand what this person was saying clearly because the sound was a bit muffled, so I thanked her and said I will call Alicia in the morning to speak with her and I hung up. I did not hang up on her like she accused me of doing so.
However 2 minutes later she calls my phone only to start verbally threatening me that if I don't call her back she is pulling me off from working the job, well she did anyways. I don't know if this person is human or not, but I won't tolerate any more verbal or emotional abuse from employers who are racist and treat people disrespectfully. The racism is bad enough, but when people start to project their ignorance and negative behavior only to twist it around on me I won't allow myself to be subjected to this kind of behavior and people do it all the time.
Do NOT WORK for this agency, the owner is RACIST her staff is RACIST, they are abusive and hostile and threatening. NO ONE needs to be treated this way. I will be contacting all her clients and letting them know what kind of business Randy operates, her own professionalism is lacking with lack of manners and respect to people seeking employment!!!
