Culligan - Annapolis - Mid Atlantic

Overcharging/ Price gauging: In August, 2011, Culligan - Annapolis charged me $1,000 for a Grundfos MQ3-35 Booster Ppump, 3/34 hp, 115 volts, which they installed with a water softening unit. They advised that these pumps last many years.  In January 2014 the pump failed to work and Culligan advised it could not be fixed.  They offered to sell me a new one at a discounted price of $750.  The prevailing market price range for a new unit is $459 - $649. So, originally, they charged me about $350 above the highest price marketed, and then offered to sell me a replacement at a discount, which is still about $150 above the highest market price.  (Labor is not a factor in the Culligan pricing; it's the actual unit cost.)

Poor Service: On January 17, 2014, a Culligan technician examined my Grundfos MQ3-35 Booster Ppump, 3/34 hp, 115 volts which was not working and advised that it probably just needed to be cleaned out.  He said it should only take a few days.  After not hearing from them for 3 weeks, I called Culligan and they arranged a delivery time to return the pump and install it, noting that they would arrive between 8:00am and 11:00am on 2/28/2014.  At 7:45am on the return date, a Culligan office person called me to ask if I was having a new pump delivered? I explained that they had apparently repaired the one they picked up from me.  About 15 minutes later the same person called back and said they could not fix my pump but they would be happy to sell me a  new one at the discounted price of $750, which is still about $150 over the highest price on the market for the unit.

I am the authori of a complaint about price gauging and poor service that has been resolved.  I commend Culligan for reaching out to me quickly and offering to do whatever is necesary to fix my problem with their service and pricing. I think the information about my complaint reached the right person at Culligan and they fixed my problem quickly.  I would like to withdraw my complaint and add that any business that fixes a problem and apologizes, is worth giving a second chance.
