After working for 30 years in credit unions (18 of them as CEO) and being an advocate for credit unions and Cuna Ins., I loved my job & tried everything to be able to stay working, but I was no longer able to continue working. In 1999 CUNA approved my benefits after 3 months (and of course loads of doctor reports, x-rays, MRI's, etc). Almost every year around Christmas time they would hold up my benefits, saying my doc hadn't returned his form, or some other baloney and after about 3 mos. I would start receiving my benefits again. I realized this was a game & I played it.

Long story, short...(By the way after 2 years CUNA hired an attorney to file for soc. sec. benefits for me. I was approved on the 1st try. The atty. called me & told me I was the 1st client she ever had that had received benefits on the 1st claim.) Now, 6 years later they send me to a doc of their choice who was a quack, didn't even exam me & he said I could "possibly" work. Denial of benefits on! I appealed & they approved me & paid me for another 18 mos. Then I receive a letter that I am able to work at "something". (What I don't know). I called them & asked them why the change from the 1st decision..... they don't have any records from my filing & docs don't keep records over 7-10 years. Now they want ME to prove I am disabled again. They turned down my 2 appeals and I have been without benefits for 3 years. I have an attorney who is going to try to sue them.

I have been in such a depression over all of this for the last 3 years & I feel it's hopeless.

Insurance companies may refuse legitimate claims for long term disability benefits

AUTHOR: SonjaKathryna - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, May 24, 2012

Hi, my name is Sonja, & Im with the disability rights group from Sokolove Law.  We have been reviewing thousands of potential claims where insurance companies refuse long-term disability benefits to someone who has a legitimate claim. Too often, legitimate claims are denied because insurance companies look for every possible legal and technical angle available that will allow them to deny a valid claim. When an insurer does not live up to its end of the contract, they act on what is called bad faith.

For folks interested in learning more about bad faith practices of insurance companies, there is great information available at http://awe.sm/5o82i. If your claim has been rejected, I want you to know your rights and options. Call our office toll-free at 800-581-6943 to learn about your options and receive a free legal consultation.
