My 11 year old daughter saved her money and bought a Mongoose CX-450 battery operated bike from d**k's Sporting Goods and made by Currie Technologies. I followed all directions carefully and yet the bike has never run. We called d**k's Sporting Goods and they told us that we had to contact Currie Technoligies with any problems.
We called Currie Tech. and they stated that they would send us a new battery pack and case in July 2006. The battery pack arrived 6 weeks later and it was completely busted and unusable.
Currie Tech then told me to take out the batteries from the busted pack and put them in the old battery pack. This took one hour of time and I charged the batteries as required and the bike would not run.
They then stated that they would send a new battery pack and a lso a throttle since it could be either of the two creating the problem.
Keep in mind that this is a $300.00 bike and my daughter has yet to be able to ride the thing. She saved her babysitting and gift money so that she could buy it. I paid for it and she paid me back as she earned her money.
Currie Technoligies refuses to let us exchange the bike and says that it is a d**k's Sporting Goods problem. d**k's store manager in Hickory, N.C. (where bike was purchased) states that he can not exchange the bike and it is a Currie Technologies problem. He referred us to a corporate office and they have refused to help us. They state that Currie Tech is responsible. Currie Tech states that they do not exchange defective bikes.
I warn everyone not to buy a Mongoose bike or any bike from d**k's. I would not buy any product from d**k's or Currie Technologies. Be forewarned. This case is heading to small claims court.
What kind of businesses sets this example to a young person who is being taught the value of hard work and the value of earning money to buy a needed bike. The bike was supposed to get her to and from her babysitting jobs.
Furthermore I as a mechanically minded man was capable of working on the bike at Currie Technologies request. What about a single mom or gentleman who has no skills in mechanics?
Do not buy from Mongoose, Currie Technologies or d**k's Sporting Goods.

How do you Americanize the bike?

Mark,
How do I update or Americanize the throttle on the bike?
Where do I get the good parts to replace the crappy Chinese ones?
Thanks

The Mongoose and Shwinn are the same thing, made by Currie. The stock throttle is the weak link, at least on the scooters. I've replaced them all at one time or another. The next thing to check is the connections, starting at the battery pack. Most times it's a loose connection or plug. At the battery, soldering the connector keeps the connectors from working loose. I've never run into a bad battery pack or motor, just the stuff I've mentioned. You're a victim of cheap Chinese-made crap, just like the rest of us. You've got to "Americanize" your bike so you can use it.

Look at the www,currietech.com website. They advertise, sell the bikes and parts for Schwinn and Mongoose.
What more do you want? If the shoe fits wear it!
The bike has the Mongoose trademark and is advertised by d**k's as a Mongoose bike. Hello.
Who knows how many companies or subsidiaries are owned by any parent company? Hiding under an alias name is how many rip off companies avoid lawsuits, criminal prosecution, and above all doing the right thing for the consumer.
I know what we bought and you need to look at the website before you comment.

Are you being fair to Mongoose Bicycles?

There is a company called Mongoose Bicycles owned by Dorel Industries. Dorel Industries markets its Recreational/Leisure products under the Schwinn, GT Bicycle, Mongoose, Pacific, Dyno, Murray, Flexible Flyer, RoadMaster, PowerLite and InSTEP brand names.
I do not think Dorel Industries are at all connected to Currie Technologies. You can research this.
Your "Mongoose" may only be a model name used by Currie Technologies, but the wording of your post seems to draw Mongoose Bicycles into your complaint.
