Dear Public,
While employed at Customer Rewards, I witnessed several discrepancies that indicated unlawful activity may be taking place. First, they posted the position as a full-time employment position. Stated that the pay was $16.00 an hr. During the interview, they explain it away as $10.00 an hr plus commission structures through training for the first 2 weeks, telling me I would then be able to decide whether I wanted $16.00 an hr or to remain on a senior rep plan for $10.00 plus commission.
Then in training, I learned that not only is this not a full-time opportunity. We work a 35 hr week, with one 15 minute break that we do not get paid for. When it came time to decide my pay. I chose to make the $16.00 an hr, and within minutes I was hurdled into a room a dismissed. They gave me the reason as the numbers were not good enough. However. My numbers were good, Not only that, I was on time, never late, never absent and regardless of being hungry because they did not break us. I stayed over when asked. I do not believe they are compliant in following the labor laws nor are they when it comes to terminating employees,
Besides myself, I witnessed then terminate several employees for no good reason, My concern is the effect this has on us as a whole economically. The laws are put into place for a good reason, Under these laws, we are supposed to be protected from abuse and discrimination in the workplace. What then Happens when an employer is allowed to break the rules? They are falsely representing themselves and this position and causing a rippling effect of unemployment in order to maintain a $10.00 an hr pay scale. This is misleading and morally wrong on so many levels.
Under Florida Labor Laws, employees are usually allowed with a 30-minute lunch break and 15 minute short breaks. This is applicable to employees who work in an 8-hour shift. Those who work under 6 hours, they are entitled to a paid break, but not a 30-minute unpaid break.
