I bought a used car from D&D Auto Sales a few months ago. I was shown a fake car history report. The alleged report had no prior accidents or major repairs on the car listed... totally clean record. I brought this car to a trusted mechanic, who informed me upon further inspection that the car had been in a wreck. I ended up having to replace the timing belt immediately and all of the headlights and blinkers. There are some issues from this wreck that will be persistent. I am not writing this review because of the repairs I had to make, but because I can't believe that a fake car history was shown to me by this dealership. They also turned off the check engine light manually before I bought it, because it went back on when I was about halfway home (2 hr drive from the dealership).

fake history report?

AUTHOR: jeff - ()

POSTED: Friday, January 16, 2015

So many consumers were dupped into the false notion that Car Fax, and other auto reporting agencies are the holy grail of all things automotive. They only have information on vehicle repairs that are reported by repair facilities and insurance companies.

Guess what? if a person nearly totals a car, and pays cash for the repair rather than claiming it against insurance, there is no record!

Just because your sacred car fax report may say that the vehicle is "clean" and you later find that the car was two different wrecks that were Frankenstiened together, does not indicate a "fake" Car fax report.

Be responsible for your actions. When purchasing a used car from a dealer, or private party, turn on every switch, knob, and button during your test drive, make sure everything works, and have the vehicle inspected by a 3rd party automotive professional before you buy it.

As far as the timing belt, All belt driven engines have a replacement interval that depending upon the manufacturer, can be every 60,000 to 80,000 miles. You likely bought this thing at 120,000 to 140,000 miles, and since there was no indication of the last timing belt replacement, your technician suggested replacement as a preventative measure.

The fact that this engine is equipped with a timing belt, and not a timing chain, as well as the manufacturer's suggested replacement interval is information you could have easily accessed before you bought this bucket, and you could have done this in less time than it took you to write this "poor me" complaint.
