On Nov 11 at about 11:30 AM in the parking lot of a office supply store, this gentleman standing 5'7-5'9" pudgy, with brown hair wearing a very tight pink shirt, blue and red pinstripe suit starts screaming at me if I know about a dozen languages.
I'm more annoyed than anything, so I get out. And his story is that he is a manager at Giorgio Armani and he lost all his money in Vegas at the Bellagio. He shows me some sort of stub from there and some sort of worn ID (green cover) with Pasquale written in it and he needs to cover the 'rental car' (Light colored PT Cruizer license plate 5MRM00)
I'm trying to get him to just tell me what he wants so he can go away. He says something about leather jackets and authenticity blah blah blah and I just want him to go away. He insists that I leave them (3) in the car for safekeeping. I agree to give him some money for the car rental and foolishly get in the car with him to an ATM across the street where the guy in the Liquor store apparently knows him and asks why he has been a stranger (or so I thought I heard that).
He attempts to look over my shoulder at my pin number, but my hand is over it.
I hand him the 280 he needs and asks for the extra 20 so he can eat. I put the ATM reciept in my pocket and give him the 20.
He asks me for more help, but my Credit Union has a $300 dollar limit and I keep saying that's all I have. He drives me to the vicinity of my car and drops me off.
Finally, he leaves me alone and since I don't know cow leather from mink s*****m I ask a few people. I found a few tears the next day.
Apparently Danilo is hiring because this guy wasn't so sharp.
I tried to file a police report but when I tried to park I was told over loudspeaker that it was a restricted area and I was photographed and would be prosecuted if I didn't leave. I parked 2 blocks away in a bad neighborhood, and walked over and apparently they were closed. I called the FBI and tried to as soon as I said 300 dollars, they weren't interested and told me to call the police. I finally left a voicemail with a detective and hopefully they will not charge me with trespassing or something.

Pasquale Was in Chicago Today

First let me say don't be too hard on yourself if you fell victim. I used to work in the public sector and have encountered all types of boosters & scams- but this guy was good, he could have gotten me, but didn't.
Same as many of you said, (they must go to class for this) "Do you speak Italian, you look Italian, my English is not good", blah blah blah. "I'm on the way to the airport from a fashion show, do you know Armani brand, what about Fermi, I need money for my rental car, my name is Pasquale I'm flying back & don't want to take them with me, heres may passport", blah blah blah.
He had 8 w/ the Fermi name & big Fermi cloth bags, he started at $650. His SUV was a gold Infiniti & didn't look like a rental, I smelled a rat, I told him have a nice day.

being that u were vulnerable and because i suppose u are a nice person otherwise u wouldnt of gotten through great lenghts to accomodate this individual i apologize.. i myself have never been through such a situation and i guess its easier to state a opinion from the outside looking in,,, in all fairness this will only serve as a lesson to u and to all of us (whoever is reading this)... atleast he didnt bodily harm u ,,,, it could have been worse,,,, what i find that is sad is that people like that do take advantage of innocent people. An i am a true believer in what goes around comes around and im very certain that when it comes back to that individual it will hit him and hit him hard,,,, once again sorry for the comment but as i was reading i was just in awe as to why a person might get in a car with a stranger,,, i also hope that ur doing well.

So how is this helpful except in hindsight?

Granted, I suppose I could have seen the fact that he was claiming to be a manager with Giorgio Armani and his suit didn't fit. That was the first thing I saw.
But the 'No' and walk away was kinda hard since he just got me as I was getting out of my car.
I also didn't want to start a physical confrontation.
So... what else as an armchair rip off expert do you suggest?
These guys hit hard and fast psychologically when you are not suspecting it.
I was particularly vulnerable as I had been in a motorcycle accident the previous day...
