I will try and keep this short,
I recently moved from Florida to Michigan for work. I moved myself; I had to ship my 2004 Ford Expedition. I searched the internet for auto shippers. I was bombarded with phone calls and emails with quotes. However these were all from Auto Shipping Brokers. I reviewed a few companies and picked out a couple. Long story short, none of them were going to be able to ship my vehicle by the time I needed to, before I was packed up and moving.
I called around for auto trailers I could haul my vehicle myself. Because of the years of the vehicle, no rental company would rent me a hauler. But during one call to a truck rental company, I was recommended to use DAS Auto Shippers. So I called to see if they could help me and get my vehicle shipped.
First off, the cost was almost twice the price everyone else had been quoting me, for door to door delivery. But I believed this was a reputable company. So I let then charge my Amex card for the full amount the next day, which was mistake one. The vehicle was finally scheduled to be picked up on April 26th, between 9-11am, this time was after talking to the depot about the pickup and trying to get them to work with me on the time. They only wanted to pick it up on their schedule not mine. So I had a time and a date, good. Well I went to pick up my moving truck rental at 8 am before DAS was to be there. While I am doing the paper work on the truck rental, I get a phone call from the shipper driver; he is 15 minutes away and will be there soon. I explained I was not there at the moment, would be there shortly, I also said that he was early. So I scramble to get back home to take care of this.
I was told in my original call that it would 10-14 days for my truck to be delivered. So I wait of about 10 days and start checking to see if my vehicle has shipped yet on the company website using their tracker. Well nothing, I keep checking, not yet. I finally contact them via their website asking when will my vehicle ship; this is now day 18 from when my vehicle was picked up. I finally get a call from customer service, they inform me my vehicle will be shipping soon and will let me know. So I am waiting again.
Finally my vehicle ships on day 20 from pickup. I receive my email telling me that and later a call telling me the same but that it should be 3 days before it is in the area at the depot. That should have been on May 16th. I wait and no information. I track my vehicle on the website again and it says "In Transit". So the 16th passes, okay, could be a day later, the 17th passes, no information. I call again and the automated tracker on the phone says that "Your Vehicle is late". DUH, nothing I did not already know. Try to get ahold of customer service, but just keep getting voice mail.
Finally on May 19th, I get a call from the shipping depot; they want to drop off my vehicle between 9 and Noon the next day. Well I work and after waiting a very long time and many emails and phone calls I wanting them to deliver it on my schedule. Well that does not work; I have to take it when they say so. So now I have to take time off of work, again my new job, to make sure I receive my vehicle before they charge me more money for a storage fee and make sure it is on their schedule not mine.
So now the vehicle will be here on May 21st. So from April 26th to May 21st, I have been without my vehicle. I paid over $1,500 for this and never anywhere along the way was this timing on my schedule, only on DAS schedule. And every time I talked to someone from customer service, all I heard was "I am sorry" and "That things happen". I understand a few small delays, but this was crazy and the customer service was the worst I have ever experienced in my life. And of course they are not willing to do anything to help balance the time and aggravation that this has cost me.
