- Contact all 3 credit bureaus and have them put your information on fraud alert

- File a police report and keep copy for your records
- Complete an affidavit for unauthorized accounts,credit, goods or services provided to the thief. You can obtain a form through the Federal Trade Commission at http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/credit/affidavit.pdf send a copy of the affidavit and police report to creditor(s), bank(s), and company(ies) the thief opened or obtained.
- File a complaint through the Federal Trade Commission http://www.consumer.gov/idtheft/


Tips to protect you in the future.

1 - Copy (both sides) items in purse and or wallet
2 - Use prepaid CC
3 - Send money order / retain receipt for records and tracking purposes
4 - use a safe deposit box to store your personal information. Marriage license, birth certificates, social security cards, copy of purse/wallet items, extra set of car keys/house keys, cash or prepaid CC, title or lease agreement to your vehicle/house, any other information you deem to be sensitive material or worth of value
5 - Open a PO Box / They can steal your identity but at least they can't stalk you. Keep your employment info safe too
6 - Use PO Box on Drivers license and checks
7 - Never put Social Security number or phone number on driver's license
8 - drop mail off at Main PO Box office
9 - shred your statements and other sensitive material
10 - stop unwanted credit card offers, telemarketing calls, junk mail and emails
