I believe the site is related to the Bad Business Bureau, so that's what we are talking about.

I'm not the one running the business, therefore attacking me personally solves absolutely nothing and proves my strongarm tactic argument, if anything.

When a "company" or "organization" acts unprofessionally and forces its "employees" away, it's up to those employees to warn the world through sites like this that this person and his "company" are bad to work for.

This saves people the time and effort of wasting their professional time to bother even looking at something.

David Crowton asked employees to blatantly rip off other sites, which is a violation of International Copyright laws, in the first place, and I refused to do it.

Alongside this, if anyone's interested, he lost his Paypal case because he was trying to make the rules up as he went and Paypal's Terms and Conditions don't cover that kind of behaviour.

The biggest problems here that led me to get no work done were unprofessionalism, miscommunication, and lack of organization, all things that Dave was responsible for, not me.

I'm a professional, I manage networks, I secure networks, I do things from an insider point of view, I make the network my own.

Anyone can outsource, and of course they found holes in my work, I hadn't done anything yet.

As far as my setting up security and what-not, I was still gathering information, that's what computer professionals do, they don't just walk in and start locking doors, not my fault there was nothing in place beforehand.

An effective network/site/company IT Administration has to first learn the people he's working with and his network before he can decide the appropriate actions, I was not given the time or the correct information to do just that.

As for the personal battles, that's another part of managing a "company", as management you can't treat your employees like dirt and expect them to glorify you, you have to kiss their butt just as much as they kiss yours.

In the first place, I didn't know until about a month in what server was what because no one bothered to be specific, which is just a little more than important when it comes to managing remote servers.

And to clarify, even though the personal stuff is irrelevant, I knew his kids got taken away, it was just unclear as to how many kids he had and it seems he lied about the amounts, about particular events involved, and the fact that he is a convicted felon and that's why he can only get away with running an e-business.

But I'm the badguy, right?

I guess the best place to start is the beginning. I attended Champlain College for almost 3 years and became friends with Josh, who has filed this report against Dave Crowton. Josh and I were pretty good friends and had some classes together. I always thought of him to be an extremely smart individual whenever he would speak in class and interact with me and others outside of class.

I had since stopped going to school for personal reasons, but was approached by Dave Crowton about possibly becoming involved in an online business. Dave went into details about his background of drugs, and losing his children after a horrific accident he went through. After all of this background, Dave got into what he planned on doing in the future so that other families that went through what he went through wouldn't have the same outcome.

This is where SubmitContent.com came into the picture. He planned on using this website to, in the future, start a foundation for broken families to help them keep their lives together after a tragic event.

Anyway, I thought that he was sincere and honest with me, so I decided to get in touch with a mutual friend of myself and Josh to help Dave and I out with this whole situation. The mutual friend got in touch with Josh to help also, which I thought was a great thing.

This is where I begin to punch holes in Josh's Rip-Off report. Never once did Dave say to Josh, Me, or anyone else for that matter that we would be getting 2000 to 2500 dollars for our work. Never once did he try any guilt trips to get people motivated to help him. If anything David was too honest almost to the point of scaring us away because of how bleak things looked at the time. Basically, David Crowton was a guy with a huge need who needed some help getting a business off the ground.

Josh was hired on to help make David's servers more secure. With no credentials, no certificates, nothing that said that Josh was capable of doing Server Security, Dave gave him a chance to prove that he could do it.

Almost two months went by; servers were still getting broken into, servers crashing, and still no progress on Josh's end. He kept saying he was fixing things, but alas, NOTHING WAS EVER DONE.

So, with no more patience, Dave came up with an idea for Josh to tackle instead of Security, and that was a hosting company. Yet Josh still didn't do anything with this either. So, for him to say that he was owed that much money for not accomplishing anything is complete Horse Doo Doo.

Josh was also told repeatedly that he was not to quit his job, that Dave couldn't promise him a consistent income to keep him afloat.

As for Dave being a con artist, I hardly think that is possible. I have personally seen the court documents upon more court documents stating what happened to him and his children. Josh is obviously blowing this whole thing out of proportion. I have seen pictures of David, and his wife with all of their kids, but no kids at home where they live now......so obviously they went somewhere!

Maybe it's Josh that is the Con who said he could do things that HE really couldn't do. Trying to drag Dave through the dirt and ruin his reputation is no way to fulfill your short comings. I feel responsible for you and what you have done for some reason, but I don't know why Josh. I certainly don't consider you a friend anymore, and I certainly hope that you get what you deserve later on in life for doing such a thing as this!

This gentleman would want people to believe that he was employed? by our company, and that he and others had been cheated and not paid. His claims are unsubstantiated to say the least.

Rather than provide you words to substantiate our position and refute these accusations, we simply offer you text chat logs from Yahoo messenger, as well as a report from a professional server company. Note that ?me? is my text and meScowcroft is Josh's text.

Please note the place where he clearly admits that the people working on this project who were not doing anything should never accepted the project if they were not going to work.

Also please note where this gentleman admits that he was never employed by this company but was supposed to be sharing profits for handling the set up for a hosting server which he never did and admits it in his own words, "Yeah I know you didnt lie - I agreed to the 30% thing - which if, everything works out, it will solve my problems"

In addition, please note that he admits he has NOT done the work and that he did NOT know what he was doing.

After that notice, an independent server management company had to be hired to fix all the destruction done by this individual on this server. He claims to be a specialist and a pro with servers but admits below that he did NOT know that the database, which is the heart of our company, needed to be password protected.

The following is a list of software and configurations that we have now installed to secure, optimize and harden your server. The following software is not resource intensive, therefore you will not see any decrease in performance.

We've installed CHKRootKit, which is a program that looks for known signatures in trojaned system binaries, it basically detects if your system has been compomised. We've ran CHKRootKit on your system and the output returned clean.

We've installed Rootkit Hunter, which is scanning tool to find most types of exploits (backdoors, suspicious files, md5 hash comparisons, and is over 99% accurate in detecting such exploits. We've scanned your system with the Rootkit Hunter and it reported that your system is clean.

APF Firewall has been installed and configured to only allow traffic on the ports that are used.
In addition, we've configured the Anti-DOS function in APF. This additional module helps mitigate and prevent certain types of DOS (denial of service) attacks to your server. A daily cron has been inserted to flush the firewall deny list. This prevents common problems associated with the deny list growing so huge, such as hanging upon bootup, slow down in server performance, etc.

BFD (Brute Force Detection) has been installed. This program works real time in conjunction with APF firewall to block any IP Addresses of users that fail authentication more than 3 times in 10 minutes.

Logwatch has been installed now. This program parses through your server's logs and reports to you via e-mail on a daily basis with tabulated information.

SIM (System Integrity Monitor) has been installed on your server now, this software checks all services 24x7 and restarts them if they are down. An e-mail is dispatched a downed service is detected and restarted.

Apache (HTTPD) web server has been optimized and secured.

MySQL Server has been optimized to perform at it's best under the most common and standard environments.

System Configuration File host.conf has been secured and hardened to prevent DNS lookup poisoning and also provide protection against spoofs.

System Configuration File nsswitch.conf has been secured and hardened. We have also optimized it to perform DNS lookups more efficiently.

System Configuration File sysctl.conf has been secured and hardened to help prevent the TCP/IP stack from syn-flood attacks. It is also configured to prevet other various and similar network abuse.

All of your vulnerable directories (/tmp, /var/tmp, /dev/shm and /usr/local/apache/proxy) have been reviewed and are clean now.

/tmp and /var/tmp have been hardened and secured to prevent the execution of malicious scripts

The old archived logs files that have been rotated located in /var/log have been removed to free up space in the /var partition/directory.

MyTOP has been installed. This is an administrative console based tool for monitoring MySQL threads/processes and performance.

We have setup a root login notification script and logger. This will send an e-mail to 'root' everytime someone logs into your server as root. Also, it will keep track of all logins in a history file located in /var/log/rootlogins

SPRI has been installed now. This program changes the priority of different processes in accordance to their level of importance. You should see at least a 5-20% decrease in the average load level of your server on average.

We have disabled the Mchat, Cgiecho, Cgiemail, Guestbook, Counter and Formmails from CPanel's system wide cgi-sys directory. The are the most commonly exploited scripts since they are in the same location on every CPanel server in the world.
!!IMPORTANT!!: If any of your users are using any of those programs, they will no longer work. If you want us to re-enable them, just let us know.

Unused programs have been disabled from the OS of your server. This reduces the chance of being compromised through software exploits on old or deprecated programs.

MultiTail has been installed and gives you the ability to tail (view realtime activity) multiple log files simultaneously.

PHPSysInfo has been installed. This is a GUI (graphical user interface) to your server's vital statistics. You can view it by going to http://0.0.0.0:2086/phpsysinfo-dev/index.php
Replace 0.0.0.0 with your own server's IP Address. You will have to enter your root login information to gain access as it is protected under your root WHM login.

Telnet has been disabled to prevent insecure transmissions of data and passwords, SSH must be used instead of Telnet, and functions the same way.

SSH has been hardened by restricting the SSH Protocol to SSH 2. SSH will function the same way, just more secure.

Fileman (Filemanager developed by gossamer-threads.com) has been installed into WHM with root level permissions. This allows system root files to be edited in an emergency situation when SSH is not accessible. You can access Fileman by going to http://0.0.0.0:2086/fileman/fileman.cgi
Replace 0.0.0.0 with your own server's IP Address. You will have to enter your root login information to gain access as it is protected under your root WHM login.
!!IMPORTANT!! This simulates SSH access, treat it as such, do not use it unless you are familiar with SSH. Moreover, do not execute any commands you are not fluent with. As with SSH, damage can be done if Fileman is not used properly. If you are unfamiliar with SSH, do NOT use this program. It should be left in case of such an emergency.

Again, this file can only be accessed through WHM while being logged in as root.

Shell Fork Bomb/Memory Hog Protection has been enabled. Fork Bomb/Memory Hog protection will prevent users logged into a shell (ssh/telnet) from using up all the resources on the server and causing a crash.

Background Process Killer has been enabled to kill any of the following which are commonly recognized bad processes: BitchX, bnc, eggdrop, generic-sniffers, guardservices, ircd, psyBNC, ptlink and related services.

A warning message has been created for the SSH login welcome screen. Any user that logs into your server via SSH, will see a message stating SSH is for authorized users only, and any unauthorized access will be reported to the law enforcement authorities.

Your FTP server software has been upgraded and secured.

We've ran and simulated a basic password scan hack attempt, the results have been emailed to 'root' and a copy of the results have been saved on your server at /root/security/passwordscanner.output

Can we guarantee your system will be hacker proof?
