My son took my car to David Early Tire to get an oil change. They were unable to remove the drain plug, that thier other store overtightened. While they did replace the oil filter and put additional oil in the engine they failed to replace the oil cap and dipstick.
Over a two week period of use the oil sprayed throughout the engine compartment and eventually caused damage to my engine.
I discovered all of this while driving to work, my car started running very rough. I got to my work and popped the hood and after a few minutes discovered my oil cap siiting on cowl. I proceeded to check the oil but could not find the dipstick. I later found the dipstick hanging on to the bottom of the engine compartment.
I called David early offices and spoke with a representative, who had me drive my car 19 miles to another location where they resolved the drain plug issue. They said they were unable to diagnos the rough running engine. They said they did not have equipment to test for compression, I thought this odd as they advertise tuneups.
I recontacted the representative after driving home( another 19 miles), telling him of my cocerns. He said to take the car to a dealership for diagnosis. I explained that I would not drive the vehicle anywhere under current condition. He said he would have it towed to nearest dealership.
I have called numerous times and written letters but have not heard back since. It is now going on two years.
I believe that running the car without sufficeint oil destroyed two cylinders as it seems they lack the compression necessary to function properly.
I estimate the cost of repair to be between 2500.00 and 3500.00.
Although my car wasn't much of a lokker it got 29 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway.
David Early has a reputation for this type of action/or lack there of.

"They were unable to remove the drain plug, that thier other store overtightened."
OBSERVATION: This is a common agitator among those "in the know". Perhaps, maybe if you're kindergarten teacher taught you that 1+1=5, and you somehow graduated to 1rst grade, you might go through life insistent on this equation, only then to be found out one day as the kid who blamed his whole life on his kindergarten teacher, instead of 'doing the math' yourself, (i.e., suffering common misconstruancies such as oil-plug over-tightening accompanied with addressing the problem, taking appropriate action, and resolving the issue b4 it turns into a whiny, unsubstantiated ripoffreport.com posting)
"While they did replace the oil filter and put additional oil in the engine they failed to replace the oil cap and dipstick. Over a two week period of use the oil sprayed throughout the engine compartment and eventually caused damage to my engine."
OBSERVATION: Immediately, an all too familiar red-flag here. 1+1=no cap, no dipstick; completely blown engine: 5 minutes. (I guess 1 in a million can happen!)
Knowing full well this post will never be read by anyone, let alone ____ with a life, to avoid further wasting my own time with this CASE IN POINT: "They said they did not have equipment to test for compression, I thought this odd as they advertise tuneups"-
Given the pretense and underlying alterior, you would never have guessed that I am on your side with this issue; however, final observation given only an authorized dealership will ever even carry an actual "Diagnostics" machine, being highly expensive and designed to "Diagnose" specific model vehicles purely in the interest of maintaining exclusivity between dealer-driver. $200 I will give you FREE DIAGNOSTICS TEST! RIGHT NOW! (confused?) DIAGNOSIS: Blame game doesn't maintain a smooth running ride, but will inspire more and more poorly sited www dot posts.

Are you sure? When oil sprays up and onto the underside of the hood, not directly on the manifold, you do not get smoke. I assure you that had their been any smoke I would have found the problem sooner. As a former mechanic (probably before you were born)I know how to take care of my vehicles and do!!!! My car ran perfectly until David Early performed work on it. I have also sold to the David Early chain and had them on COD as they were unwilling to meet obligations to their creditors.
I don't make up excuses like David Early. Tom has never denied the fact that they left the oil cap and the dipstick out and even said he would get it taken care of.Apparently he is not a man of his word as he has continually dodged me since agreeing to correct employee negligence.Running condition of my vehicle can be verified and has been.My car was not tired it was drained of life by the stupidity of David Early employees.
Why did you respond? Are you truly an employee? If so it sounds as if you find your employer equally distasteful!!! When you respond you should at the very least get all the details before going off half cocked. Why is corporate not responding? Out of sight out of mind?

I find this VERY hard to believe that you drove your car for 2 weeks .. having oil splashing all over your engine and you never noticed ... here is your direct quote "Over a two week period of use the oil sprayed throughout the engine compartment and eventually caused damage to my engine." ...
If this was the case .. you would see smoke coming from the engine compartment from the oil burning on the engine .. you know that blue smoke that comes off the engine when you spill a little bit of oil on it when its hot? .. evan a little drop on a hot engine will smoke like crazy .. and at that point .. any normal person would stop and pop the hood .. and see what was smoking ...
What most likely happened here was your motor got tired .. and you where looking for someone to blame for your misfortune ...
I am not a big fan of David Early .. however this is just common sense .. if you see smoke coming from your hood ... and you just ignore it .. thats your stupidity not Davis Early's ...
