Please hear me out so you can avoid what I am going through. Yesterday (August 26th) marked my one week anniversary to my husband. We got married on August 19th at the most beautiful place on earth. Our one week anniversary yesterday was supposed to be filled with love, happiness, gratitude, and reflection from our special day just one week ago. Unfortunately, it was marked with sadness, frustration, anger and disappointment. A police officer showed up to our door with a letter indicating that we were being SUED by David Mahlum with Midnight Entertainment and need to be in court in Black River Falls in a couple of weeks (we live in a northern suburb of the Twin Cities).

 

Now let me explain. I found David on The Knot, which I’m sure everyone has used while planning their wedding. I was excited because he had good reviews and he provided a lot of services at a lower cost than some other DJs we looked into. Now, as someone who has 7 years of student loans built up, just bought a house and helping to pay for a wedding, it seemed like a good choice. We were excited to have found his services.

 

David sent our music planner to us and instructed us to complete and return back by July 19th; one month before the wedding. We sent it to him on July 18th with no response email from him. Did he get it; I don’t know because he never responded. A few days passed and I STILL didn’t hear from him even after multiple attempts via phone/email to reach him. I finally got a big knot, as anyone/any BRIDE, in my situation would get, in my stomach saying “don’t trust him.”

 

My mom’s biggest fear for the wedding was that the DJ wouldn’t show. Her FEAR became mine and I definitely didn’t want that! I DID NOT want that stress!! I finally emailed him four days after on the 21st saying I was cancelling services because he had no follow up, no communication, he was unreliable. I DID NOT TRUST HIM that he was going to drive 2 hours to our wedding if he couldn’t send back any emails/phone calls. I was NOT willing to take that risk! I’m sure you wouldn’t either. I gave him a few days until I finally decided to call it quits. After I sent my cancellation email is when I finally heard back from him; imagine that. That’s when he stated that I need to send the remaining balance or I would be charged double the balance plus legal issues. I didn’t think it would come to that…but it has. One week after our wedding.

 

I was not willing to send the balance because HE broke the contract by being unprofessional, uncommunicative, and untrustworthy. It was a hassle to try to reach him. He claimed he was in northern Wisconsin and without cell service. I found out he was only 15 miles east of Black River Falls WITH cell service so he could have returned my emails/phone calls. Also, his event ended on the 17th but I tried to reach him from the 18th thru the 21st without hearing from him (so AFTER the event). This is getting harder for me to write because of my frustrations as to why I AM BEING SUED FROM HIS LACK OF PROFESSIONALISM!! To me he is also a liar.

 

He claims that he’s the only one that handles the “office stuff.” If that’s the case then David, as the CEO of Midnight Entertainment, I would suggest delegating to your other entertainers or planning ahead to let your clients know what’s going on, or even an AUTOMATIC email indicating you’ll be out of touch for a period of time. It’s simple; it takes a few minutes to do; and your clients won’t wonder. I’m not a CEO or Executive, but I know customer service, I know how to be RESPECTFUL of people’s time and needs. If you indicate we have to have something turned in by a certain date then YOU better be ready to follow up.

 

It’s unfortunate that this has come to this, and I’m not one to typically write a review but I want to save other bride-to-be’s from the HASSLE, SADNESS, FRUSTRATION AND ANGER that I am now going through. This is making me cry just thinking about what he is now doing to us.

 

My recommendations if you’re looking into David with Midnight Entertainment: DON’T, unless you want to be the one following up with him and providing him with customer service. Go elsewhere. I would recommend All Occasions DJs out of Eau Claire. They jumped in with less than a month to go and provided the BEST customer service and follow up. Our DJ was incredible. They listened to what I wanted, was patient with me as I was being pulled in 8,000 directions at the reception. All Occasions DJ Services were PERFECT. David with Midnight Entertainment was NOT.

 

Thank you for ruining my one week anniversary, David. You truly are one of a kind.
