7/18/07 David Stanley had a 2007 Dodge Ram Quad cab truck, very nicely equipped, advertised for 50% off MSRP which was $32,020. The only dislcaimer was that the price was "after all rebates".
My friend and I went to the dealership, told them he had a trade and wanted to purchase the vehicle. They worked up a deal and we were shocked to see that they were only offering 1/3 of the value for his trade.
After much double talk and playing the 'numbers game', they admitted this was because he was buying below wholesale and therefore his trade was reduced in order for the dealership to re-coup its losses. in other words he was going to pay $25,000 for a truck advertised at $16,010.
I asked at this point, if we had walked in there with $16,000 cash would they sell him the truck and they said "of course".
I went back the next day to purchase the same vehicle, this time with a large down payment and no trade-in. They repeatedly gave me excuses as to why I could not purchase the vehicle at that price, but I held my ground and told them that they legally had to honor thier own advertised price.
After a couple hours they decided that my credit was 'not good enough' and they could not secure financing. Come on!!! Even with less than perfect credit most lenders will finance $10,000 on a brand new $32,000 vehicle because there is very minimal risk involved.
On the 3rd day, I called to make sure the vehicle was still available, they said it was. My friend's father who has very very good credit went in 30 min later with $4000 cash and wanted to buy the truck.
When they saw me come in the new car manager immediately escorted us to an office in the back. He bagan asking where I had obtained this "so called" ad - I informed him from his website and produced a printed copy. He was nervous and didnt know what to say. I thought we finally had them in a corner with no way to back out of the sale.
The manager had one more ace up his sleeve. He called someone on the phone, asked them to pull up the ad and tell him the expiration date of the sale. Of course I had a copy and there was none. After a very secretive conversation on the phone, he informed me that the sale had expired 2 weeks ago and therefore we could not purchase the truck!
I confronted him on the fact that for the past 2 days we had spent several hours in the dealership and no one had mentioned this before. In fact they had repeatedly called my friend trying to get him to come back in and reconsider the deal. I also commented how odd that this truck had not been immediately snatched up by someone at that unbelievable price.
He then smirked and commented that I hadnt qualified to purchase on my own and that now no one else was going to buy it for me because the sale was over. I was furious !!! The sales people at David Stanley are nothing but rude, fast-talking liars and cheats!
This idiot manager even went so far as to admit in front of 3 of us that this ad was 'never any good' and that he had spoken to the general manager who also had no intention of ever honoring the ad.
As I left, I reminded him that there are laws protecting consumers against blatently false advertising and that I would report them. He just laughed and said "whatever!" Someone should tell this guy about the old adage of "your words coming back to haunt you".
I am filing complaints with the:
Federal Trade Comission. You can do this online at www.ftc.gov
The local Better Business Bureau (239-6081)
I will also be contacting other local enforcement agencies as well as an attorney. You can find these resources easily on the internet.
David Stanley's deceptive advertising must be stopped. I shudder tho think how many decent unsuspecting people are lured in with promises of these great deals and then taken advantage of by these crooks.

Kristi, you tried to buy a "Nail-Down"... Can you imagine what this means?

A Nail-Down is, in effect, nailed down to the floor.... you cannot buy it, at least not anywhere near the advertised price "because...."
You had noted that the advertised price "includes all rebates"....
One Rebate might require that you are a recent college graduate. What does "recent" mean? Good question!
Another Rebate might require that you are a member of our armed services... who was shot in Iraq..... Fatally.
The list goes on......
Learn to read car ads much more carefully, and if you do see weasel-words in a dealer's ad, rest assured if you go to that dealer you will be dealing with weasels.
And for heavens sake, have you money ready BEFORE you ever set foot in the dealership. Be able to provide a check, or even cash delivered by courrier. Then the "We couldn't get you financed" BS goes away.... and if you do finance, you will get better terms... and there will be a far lower risk of being... ummm, you know... at your bank or credit union. Heck, one credit union I belong to has favorable pricing agreements for members with convenient dealers representing most brands of autos & trucks.

Ok you missed the point

Apparently you missed what I was saying. I was not in any way shape or form. What I was trying to get across was that you have to look at it from the other side. You have to understand that even though you don't like it, that doesn't make it illegal to do.
You seem to think I work there and that's a fair assumption, but it is wrong. I used to work in the car business a very long time ago. While I was there I had a very up close and personnel look every day at what went on. There were people on a weekly basis who had the same complaints you have, and tried the same things you are trying, but in the end it always turned out in favor of the dealership. Did I like it? Absolutely not! That's why I used to work in the car business.
I was in no way saying they were right in the way they advertise. Just saying it's legal.

I smell a RAT !!!

That response about the RAT smelled like a big crock of 'fecal matter' if you ask me !!! Perhaps a nervous employee of a certain dealership?? Why else would he have so vehemently defended them and thier deceptive practices.
To insult the character and integrity of my friends and I, who he knows nothing about, only proves only the extreme lack of character and integrity in himself. For him to condone the deplorable practices of this dealership is shameful.
He may dismiss this act as trivial and try present this as the futile rantings of a disgruntled customer who did not get her way however the authorities and private attorney I have contacted are quite interested in the facts of this matter and it is far from resolved.
Its time for consumers to stand up against these creeps. Anyone who has been a victim of this dealership should contact the FTC and the Oklahoma Attorney General and consult an attorney who will advise you of your rights.

Heres the deal.....
AUTHOR: You Rat! - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Monday, July 23, 2007
What you have to understand is that there is no way anyone can expect to get a top dollar price on a trade-in when the are going to pay well below whole sale price. The world doesn't work like that especially in the car business, you have to be smarter then that one.
Before you ever go out and follow up on any ad that states, "all rebates applied" you should probably find out what all rebates you have to qualify for to receive the full 50% off of the vehicle. It could be some very weird off the wall things but if you don't meet the requirements you cannot and will not receive the rebate.
As for your assumption that a bunch of lenders will finance you for 10K when the vehicle stickers for 32K...Well that's false! No matter how much you finance if you are a RAT (car business term for folks who do not pay their bills and score between 350-550 on their credit) a lender will not touch you unless you put down a specific amount and/or cover any fees that they have. I have seen bank fees be as much as 10k to 12k plus require a down payment on top of that.
I doubt the dealer ever said most of the things you claim they did. I doubt this for the simple reason of why in the world would they ever tell you that they never planned on selling the truck at that price?
All of these outlets you think you can run to and get someone to help you in your fight against the big bad people who told you no. Well the BBB won't care because the dealership has the right to give you as little or as much for your trade as they want. Just because you don't like the way the math works out does not mean that they screwed you over. It just means that they know how to make a profit. So you can kick and moan but it's not going to change a single thing. No matter how many people read this and see it your way and avoid this one dealership, it's not going to make the wheels of David Stanley Dodge profit come to a screeching halt. Even if they avoid this dealership they will just go down the street and buy from the next guy with the lowest advertised price. It's called a price "leader" for a reason. Because it leads the drones in.
Trust me when I say this "No matter if your buying a car or a gallon of milk the person selling it to you will always make a profit. So just suck it up and deal with the fact that you live in a profit driven world". Be smarter then the average bear and do your homework before you ever leave the house. This way at the end of the day when you feel as if you received the raw end of the deal you won't have anyone to blame but yourself.

Why Did You Even Pursue This?
AUTHOR: Jim - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Sunday, July 22, 2007
You were very observant in the beginning. You saw with your own eyes and your own powers of reason they were trying to CON you. Why then did you WASTE YOUR TIME going back again and again???
If I read your posting correctly, you finally left and did not buy the car. That's what you should have done much before that.
You are apparently unware of the true nature of the BBB. They don't car about you. Complaining to them will also be a waste of your time. The BBB wants you to think they are on your side. Its nothing more than part of their CON GAME. Their income is derived from the "businesses" or "criminal operations" which are their "members". For the "membership fee" the BBB then tells everyone how that "business" "meets or exceeds standards."
Flush this dealer and the BBB down the nearest toilet.
Be well.

What lying scumbags! They'll be sorry they ever tried to defraud you! I hate liars & cheats who claim to be professional businesspeople. I'll bet they never imagined that their little fake-ad, bait-&-switch tactics would backfire on them. They never thought someone would actually be persistent enough to call them on their little bullsh!t stalling tactics & play their little "financing" game tit for tat. Those who try to take advantage of people should be punished, & I have a feeling they'll get theirs! I hope the authorities throw the book at them!
