I'm graduating from college soon, and have been applying for jobs all over Michigan, hoping to find something.

Unfortunately, one of the "advertising agencies" I sent my resume to was Db Advertising.  The company's Web site promised me that their "extensive portfolio" included more than 500 businesses in the metro Detroit area.  The information included seemed kind of vague, but I sent them a quick email anyway, figuring it couldn't hurt to give it a shot.

Later in the day, I received an email back from Db Advertising, asking me to call and set up an interview.  It was very similar to emails I've received from other companies, so I went ahead and called and scheduled an interview.

The next day, I was looking for more places to apply, when I noticed that a different company (Boss Marketing) had the same phone number and address as Db Advertising.

I called the company to ask what the deal was, and the woman on the phone sounded frazzled, fumbled around, and then gave me a very vague answer about how Boss Marketing was "taken over" by Db Advertising. I asked her how many employees Db Advertising had, and she paused, then said, "oh sometimes anywhere from 30 to 35".

This information all seemed extremely suspicious to me, and I did some more research.  I discovered that scam reports had been filed against various versions of Boss Marketing and Db Advertising (Boss Advertising, Altoni International, etc.).  All of the reports detailed days of awkward interviews and "job shadowing" selling coupon books and going door to door.

Needles to say, I didn't interview with them, and told them that I know exactly what they're up to.

I'll also likely tell everyone who will listen about my experience in hopes that they won't waste their time with something like this!

I found the ad for Db Advertising in my local news paper, it stated: "CHRISTMAS CASH Not making $13/hr? Call Katie! #" Now I know why they didn't use their name in the ad. I went in for an interview on Thur Dec 9th at 1:30pm. After 45mins of waiting, I was called in to the office with another girl who had been sitting next to me. That was the first alarm in my head, I've never had in interview with a second person to be interviewed. Paulo seemed a nice upbeat person, although he had obvioulously hadn't shaved anytime recentally. He started by telling us about a girl who had only worked there for three months and was about to be premoted to manager and make $100,000 a year because she was a hard worker and she worked 7 days a week. Then he told us how we would be making $200 a day and $35,000 a year, working only from 11 - 9 weekdays and 8:45 - 6 sat and sun. He interviewed the girl next to me first, she was graduating from college in a week. She was asked to come back for a second interview in a week and to dress warm, the after she left he turned to me. I was also asked to come back the next day, and to dress warm, that was a little weird but whatever. I arrived at 10:45 the next morning.

After an hour of sitting in the cramped office and listening to 30 people yelling chants and Christmas songs. As they all piled out of the back room all pumped up, a girl not much older than me named Stephanie told me to come with her. We went outside with the others, as I got into her car I was still wondering where we were going. After we stopped at a gas station and she bought me a soda we headed straight to Birmingham, MI. We met up with two of her "people" (Dave and Ashley I'll call them both of whom had just started this week as well) and told them what to do for the first half of the day, and gave Dave my phone. Stephanie and I started walking in to every business downtown Birmingham, as she tried to sell $350 spa packages for $40. This wasn't what I was told we were doing, this wasn't the job I signed up for. But then I relized that they never actually told me what I would be doing, but I need a job bad so what the hell I'll see how it goes today.

After half the day had gone by stephanie called Dave and told him to drop Ashley in a residental neighborhood to sell by her self, and for Dave to work Old Woodward. Stephanie bought me lunch and dinner as she grilled me on selling tactics that I would be tested on later, she had sold all ten of her spa packages so she was happy and it was only 7:00, we were supposed to be back by 7:30 so she called Dave, who didn't answer. It was 8:00 before we were able to find and pick him up. We then droped him off at his car, and as he waited for Ashley we started back for the office for my "test" We made it back at 9:00 and again I sat for about a half hour after I finished my test waiting to see Mr. Boss. In his office he told me that Stephanie thought I would be good for the company and an asset to her team. Then I was told that for the first week I would be paid $300-$500 from the company and I would keep everything I made! Too good to be true right? RIGHT! He offered me the job and I took it. By the time I got home it was 11:00. I had just worked for 12 hrs and hadn't got paid for any of my time. There was something not quite right about this place, and of course when I type in db advertising into google what comes up but SCAM! They got me but if my story helps anyone else then good ridence Db advertising!
