I was referred to this company by a friend who used them for her move in Jan 2007. She didn't have many belongings and had no issues with this company so I took her word for it and used them myself - no questions asked. BIG MISTAKE!

DO NOT use D&D movers!! October 29, 2007 was my move date. I was moving into the condo I had just purchased - it was my first ever home purchase so I was hugely nervous.

I had scheduled them for 10am on Monday, October 29, 2007. I had been quoted at $40/hour for 2 men & a truck, 4 hour minimum charge and had been told I could pay by credit card (I specifically asked). I had spoken to someone named Mike.

They called me at 7am on moving day and asked me where I had been on the weekend - they had recorded the date wrong and were mad at me for it. They then seemingly worked things out and told me they'd be there at 9:30 am.

10:45 rolled around and still no sign of them - I called and Mike told me they were almost there. 11am rolled around and they finally showed up. They begin moving my boxes and present me with a form to sign, the form states a charge of $45/hour, $30 truck use - minimum 4 hour charge. I had no choice but to sign it.

It took them 1.5 hours to load my belongings. Before I left, I asked them if they required directions to my new place and was told no. It takes 20 minutes to drive from 1 location to the next - they showed up 45 minutes later, THEY HAD GOTTEN LOST!

The next 45 minutes was spent waiting around while one of the movers discussed my charge on the phone with someone - trying to figure out how much to charge me. It's now about 2pm. I was then presented with a bill:
Labour: $225
Travel: $45
Truck Use: $30
Service fee: $30
: $32
TOTAL: $362

I had $270 in cash on me - they refused to take my belongings out of the truck until I had paid them in full - cash only. I do not own a car. I had to walk to the nearest ATM to withdraw the remaining money. I HAD NO CHOICE! What was I going to do? Leave everything I own with a couple of complete strangers??

Once I paid them, they began unloading the truck - it took them 2 hours. I had instructed them to place everything in my living/dining room.

A few hours after they left, as I was moving everything around, I noticed that some furniture had been damaged/broken.

As I wasn't able to call them during the day - I asked my real estate agent if he could call them for me. Mike refused to talk to my agent, yet would not call me.

It has been almost 6 weeks. I call them almost every day and leave messages. The few times I have spoken to them they refuse to help me and end up being extremely rude and have threatened to call the police and file harrassment charges against me and my real estate agent. This is highly unappropriate.

I have reported them to Revenue Canada - I believe that unspecified charge was GST and I don't believe they have a registered GST account (as the receipt I have was hand written, there's no GST # on it and they won't give me one)

I will soon be calling the Consumer protection branch of the Ministry of Government & Consumer Services as well as the Police.

I will also leave them yet another voicemail to let them know I have done so. I want them to know that people will not accept being treated like complete fools.
