Unlike most companies, Dell Financial Services basically punishes you for trying to pay your bill same day or over the phone. The way their system is set up, if you don't have the money until the due date, then you're going to be out $10 to pay your bill on time. They charge you this through CheckFree if you try to do it over the internet, or charge you this if you decide to try to pay over the phone. If you don't pay by the due date, DFS will charge you a rediculous $40 late payment and there is no grace period for this. Also, it is difficult to try to negotiate with them because their call center seems to be all Indian or Arabic. This leads to frustration more times than not because it seems that the representative sometimes has trouble understanding what you're saying just as much as you have trouble understanding what he/she is saying.

I'm not sure what other companies you have dealt with...but EVERY account that I have, charges a fee for same day payments (and many charge a fee for phone payments as well). None of my accounts give a "grace period" for late payments, and ALL of them charge a $39 late fee. Why should you be considered special?
