In October 2003 I ordered a computer from Dell over the phone. I offered to pay with a credit card, but the girl said they would give me 90 days interest-free. The first statement came about a month later showing a bill for $1,046.84. (The amount should have been $1,008) I made made calls to Dell (better known as India!!!) with no results. Then I e-mailed Dell....no results, then finally, a certified letter!

Dell finally corrected the bill, which by now was past the 90 day "interest-free period" and had now accrued $50.46 in interest(from my trying to correct the $38.84 overcharge). I filed a complaint with the N.J. Dept. of Consumer Affairs. Dell agreed to pay the original $38.84 plus the $50.46 interest to Dell Financial Services a.k.a. CIT Bank. I then sent them a check for the $1,008 for the computer. Here it is, months later & I'm still being billed for accruing interest.

I am being needlessly charged money for THEIR mistakes....not mine!!!!

Same Deal With Best Buy

AUTHOR: Cory - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, July 12, 2004

Just paid off Best Buy on a 90 day same as cash deal. It states a balance of XXX dollars as a balance due. Below in some box, it stated that all interest would be refunded if paid before such a date. That way people couldn't cry and say "I didn't know". You have to pay very close attention to what is written on these statements. Sent my final payment in 7 days before the due date. They don't credit my account for 8 days. Didn't tack on the interest but did tack on $29 "late fee". 8 days from TX to CA. and to be credited to my account. I don't think so. The rep was very understanding and removed it. People, be very careful with these same as cash deals. Don't know if your's was similar but they can bite you.

Your error

You were only disputing the $38.84. You still have a responsibility to pay the undisputed portion. You failed to do this within the 90 days so you were (rightfully) charged finance charges.
