Edward R. Bernstein is the owner of Delorean One; an outfit in Chatsworth; California dedicated to sales and restoration of Delorean automobiles.
On 11/2002; Mr.Bernstein came in his Delorean transport vehicle with the promise that the car would be resotored at his shop, and provided me with a reciept for the vehicle and approx. $4,500.00 in parts for the restoration; with the assurance that a written estimate of the job was to follow once the vehicle was in his shop. He then loaded his transporter and left for California.
For a period of 18-24 months after repeated calls to Mr. Bernstein and hearing excuses from overbooked with work; to illness and or lack of memory. Still he never sent any type of estimate for the work I was promised.
Some time later I received an Email with pictures of what Mr.Ed claimed was my auto. To my shock and utter disgust I saw pictures of a Delorean Auto, the body high up on a lift and separated from the chassis which was beside the car.
That picture showed engine and transmission still attached to the car chassis. The second one reflected the same chassis without an engine and the subsequent pictures were that of a dissaembled engine.
I almost dropped dead from the shock. I called and He gleefully explained that it was necessary in order to prepare an estimate and for me not to worry that he was hard at work on preparing one.
To this day my car is sitting in his shop,with my $5K in parts;
and a good faith deposit (another $5K I was coherced in paying in order to get him to finish the estimate which he never did. This matter is in the hands of the California BAR as a complaint against this individual and company. Civil action has not been ruled out by me yet.
