My son just graduated from the University of Minnesota after playing football, lettering for 3 years and is now taking his first job with IBM in Atlanta. He needed to purchase his first car and went to Denny Heckers tent sale over Memorial Day. They got him credit approval and took his downpayment in record time. Then once they had the sale they made us sit for over 2 hours to do the paper work.

I asked to speak with a manager who was too busy until we were all the way across the parking lot leving in disgust. The manager sent someone to get us on the other side of the dealership. We went to his ofice where he proceded to tell me that thats more or less just the way it is. No apology for the wait and just a brush off.

When my son picked up his car the next day there wasn't even enough gas to make it half way home. This is the worst dealership I have ever been to in my life and I would suggest you buy from someone you can depend on after the sale.

Good Ole' Boys!?

AUTHOR: kn313 - (USA)

POSTED: Friday, October 02, 2009

It is a shame that Kurt and so many other people have been affected by Hecker's poor business practices.  My parents are the biggest hard-a$$es on the face of the Earth when buying cars, they're tough to a fault.  But yet they go to the worst dealer in MN (when he was in business) in terms of ripping your head off when buying cars because there is almost an expectation that buying a car is horriable and difficult!  As I indicated earlier I am in the car business but I won't say who as we are a large corp. and don't want to get in trouble my powers that be.  Folks, always ask for the best price first- ask for a non- commissioned salesperson- ask if you get free car washes and gas discounts.

Unfortunatley there are still dealers out there who operate the 'old school' way.  Always shop online to ensure you're getting the best price possible as dealers need to be competitive w/ non- negotiating stores like mine.  Want a couple hints?  Stay away from White Bear Lake Superstore (Buick Pontiac GMC) stay away from Bloomington Lincoln Mercury.  In general stay away from negotiating stores because no matter how good you think you are at negotiating, they're better.  You need to remember these guys have it down to an art form as it's how they pay their bills.  Look for groups that are "One Price" or "Best Price"  Morries have gone to a one price business model, but the one I heavily recommend is the Walser Automotive Group, they're just better! ;-)

Good luck folks!

Go to Another Dealer

AUTHOR: Karl - (U.S.A.)

It is ridiculous that one has to buy a Lexus or Cadillac to get decent service. My local GM dealership - they handle all makes of GM vehicles - is outstanding. I have both a Cadillac and Chevrolet and both get equal treatment. You should have walked long before your two hour wait. I bought a new Chevrolet last year and it took about 30 minutes. I saw what I wanted. I signed the papers and then got a loan from my credit union. I went back in 3 days, paid for the car and drove it home. I bought a program Cadillac from a dealer in Ft. Worth over the phone. No deposit. They gave me the VIN and other information, I got a loan from the credit union and drove over there and picked the car up . There ARE dealers like that around. Look for them and get references.

Signing the papers for the new Chevy (it was a Cobalt, not a $50,000 Suburban) took about 15 minutes. Why were you there for 2 hours? Were you trying to get financing? Atlanta has many car dealers - next time use another one if you aren't treated well. Just walk. You don't have any obligation to buy there. By the way -both of the cars I bought came with full tanks of gas.

If you wanted quality service you have to pay for it(lexus, caddie, infinity) american dealerships are run by good ole boys and have been for years this is why they are failing, I used to work there and i was treated even worse when i asked about buying a car, they didn't even want to sell me a car for fear of getting a bad post sale report sent to chevrolet by a employee. I take it you haven't boughten a new car from a dealer in awhile, expect this type of behaviour at most dealers unless you buy a high end car. I was talking to a lexus owner and she had a flat tire they drove her out another lexus same color and towed her car to the shop fixed it then delivered it while she was sleeping this is why she trades in her lexus for a new one every year. This kind of service should be standard in my opinion, If i bought a suburban new for $50000 i should get that kind of service. Anyways Denny got his and no longer owns the dealership(carma baby). Show these jerks and next time just order a car online and avoid the sales team alltogether...
