My undergraduate was at DeVry and Keller has an admission/recruiting/sales policy where they review the official DeVry transcript and award course waivers for certain classes in the Keller graduate program (up to 6, combining waivers, transfers and exemptions).

During the admission, the admission counselor and registrar reviewed my official DeVry transcript and waived 3 classes from the Keller graduation requirement (total of 9 credits). A document was given to me by the admission counselor showing the graduation path and the waivers that had been accorded.

A few months later, I was told by the student services that one of the waivers did not count and had to register for an additional class to make up for those 3 credits now lost. They were justifying this by the fact that that particular DeVry class was no longer in the academic catalog. I had to point them to the fact stated in the academic catalog (governing policies) that the graduation requirements are governed by the catalog in effect in the academic year of the enrollment. They failed to produce the catalog not showing the class in question. The class was indeed no longer in the following year's catalog (actually it was just renamed; same class, same material, same topics, different code). My academic progress was manually changed to show that the class I had a waiver for no longer counted against the academic requirements for graduation (the class was still listed but with a manual override to not count for graduation).

A back and forth between student services and I went on for months. Eventually they conceded and gave me a "pass option" to use to take the extra class at no charge. I agreed and took it.

I filled out the form and submitted it to student services as requested. For weeks there was no acknowledgment of this submission. Every time I called student services I was told that it was processed. The registration for the next session came, I registered and was charged for all credits. Calling again student services they acted like they didn't know anything about a pass option. Pointing them to the still opened support requests with the pass option still attached and on record forced them to acknowledge that there was a pass option. They told me to resubmit it and I did.

The next session and registration came and the pass option was not applied; still being charged for all credit hours. I called student services a great number of times and was told every time that it was submitted and processed and it was where it was supposed to be (student finance).

Eventually I called student finance and they told me that it was submitted 3 days before my call (I had been told for months that it had been submitted to finance).

For several weeks I've been in the middle of another back and forth between student services and student finance; student finance would state that student services didn't finish processing it and to call student services and student services would state that they did and to call student finance.

Threatening with a lawsuit (which is in progress) put a different traction on the case. Student services now states that I cannot use a pass option to take a class; only for retaking a class that I failed for some extraordinary reasons. And of course acting all surprised about my attempt. Keep in mind that I did not ask for a pass option; I asked for them to recognize the officially awarded waivers and the pass option was a settlement they offered.

They have an online customer support system that at one point in this debacle I asked them to use so I can have a "paper" trail. Multiple support requests related with this matter were being closed without the option to be reopened and/or add comments or updates. On some, they removed my access completely

In conclusion, this company (cannot call it school) is an absolute joke. You have the same experience with them as when dealing with a used car salesman. The level of incompetence in student services and finance is staggering - student services has only one job: to register (sale) you for classes whether you need them for graduation or not (which they attempted and eventually conceded that I didn't need them - a yet another case).

Recently my progress report for graduation requirements jumped from 45 credits to 66(!). They could not produce any explanation on how that happened and eventually reversed it.

If you are willing to put in the effort and expense to get a master degree you owe it to yourself to avoid this "school". It is just a racket on a mission to extract as much money from you as possible by engaging in shady sales and business practices. Employees in student finance and student services are a monument of incompetence and a disgrace for the business they work for and any business for that matter.
