I was out running errands in the area of 965 East and 3300 South where Universal Systems, Inc. happens to be located. I had to run into a store just down the street to pick up a holiiday gift that I called ahead and ordered - it was literally a 3 minute pickup.
The store I needed to go into to had no parking available. As I drove up and down the street, I noticed that Universal Systems, Inc. had an ample parking lot. I was in a hurry and did not see any signs stating "Universal Systems, Inc. parking only". There were no signs of any kind on the brick wall in front of a place I wanted to park.
I parked and ran down the street, into the store and was handed my ordered gift. I then ran back up the street and there was a very skinny, unhealthy looking boy holding a clipboard standing by my car. It was then that I saw the boot on my front tire. I asked him what the meaning of "this" was and he stated that it was private parking and that it would be $75 to get the boot off of my car.
I asked if he could take a card or a check and he sarcastically said "um no...". I told him I only had a $100 bill on me and asked if he had change. He immediately replied that he did not have any change and asked "why would I have change?" I replied back stating that if it's a cash deal only, anyone would assume that he would have change. He told me I could walk down the street and get change and he would wait for me. I told him I wasn't leaving my car (because I believed that if I left it he would tow my car while I was away).
I am a Registered Nurse working at a nearby hospital and was in a hurry to get to work so I wasn't late. I told him I didn't have time and he shrugged his shoulders and stated that he would take the $100 but that that was all he could do. I had no choice but to give him the money.
I asked that the boot be removed from my car immediately so that I could get to work. He instead asked for my driver's license and my registration, I asked why he needed these documents and he replied "I just do". I gave him my driver's license and my registration while he took his sweet time writing everything down. I got angry and told him for the third time, that I needed to get to work.
He had me sign a "form" with all of my personal information on it, gave me a copy and took the boot off of my car. I asked for his name and he stated it was on the form. He had written his name as "Scott Boot", which is clearly a made up name.
I left the parking lot and called the number on the form. I reached a "dispatcher" named "Rick". I told him what had happened and that I wanted my $25 change. He asurred me that "Scott" would be fired for taking more money than the fee was and not giving me change and that he would call me that evening to "meet up with me to give me my change". He promised me that I would get my $25 back.
I never heard from "Rick" and called the same number for several days; sometimes there was an answer and a man would tell me that "Rick" was not there, and other times the call would go to a voicemail with just a number and no name.
I believe that this is scam created by Universal Systems, Inc. and Diamond Towing. I know for a fact that this kid was parked in a car on the lot waiting for people like myself. This scam or rather "stalking of innocent people" needs to be stopped by the police immediately.
I will not stop until I accomplish this, but in meantime, do not park in Universal Systems, Inc. parking lot or you will fall victim to the same scam used on me.
