I saw an commercial on tv for direct buy and home refurbishments interest me so I called to set an appointment to meet Direct Buy staff. I attended about 1 hour meeting with my wife. I wanted to hear more after sales pitch but there was a "tour" of facilities after sales meeting. So after the tour I started asking questions more specific about the products that could be purchased. As the "time" became closer to the next group appointments grew nearer it was then and only then Direct Buy sales person mentioned what we thought? I mentioned I would like to "think about it" and talk it over with my wife. I should have known this may be the number one sales "push" around. No you must decide today this is a one time offer to purchase our product. We were in the process of remodeling our home and so we decided if the product was what they claim it was we would save 40-60% off every purchase (cutting out middle man and purchasing direct from Manufacturer) which helps you off set you contract investment. We returned home and started getting finanace bills in mail. I thought to myself before I make my first payment I would inquire about LCD TV just to compare costs before making my first payment. Right! Wrong!!!! I made inquiry to Direct Buy in Collinsville. They quoted $2700. I called Chicago area Direct Buy and they quoted yet another price (I was checking to see if they were the same, same company right! wrong!!) I purchased LCD TV on internet for $2148 shipping included. This is when I called Direct Buy in attempt to cancel contract keeping in mind I had paid $500 at time I signed contract. From this point it became a "defensive" battle for which Direct Buy was not going to give in. I attempted to call Beta Finanace and all they would do is refer me back to direct buy. I work in a field where contracts are signd all day long. My understnading of a contract is two part. 1) Both parties agree to the terms of the contract 2) Lastly, but most important both parties understand and agree to "products" which will be given upon receipt of payment for those services. My point is this is not a valid contract because the products being sold are not as promised in the sales presentation. I was unable to research at Direct Buy to only find out later you can buy products outside of direct buy for the same or less. If anyone has a similiar situation please respond. I would appreciate any free legal advise as to my options.

Direct Buy has a horribe reputation for using high pressure sales tatics. The best thing for you to have done was research beforehand. They are well known for their so called "contracts" and they will turn you over to collections in a heart beat. They will track you to the ends of the earth, ruining your credit history in the process as well. You are pretty much stuck here until a class action lawsuit happens. There has been alot of talk on it, but so far I've not seen any action on it. Good luck.

Direct Buy is a scam

Consumer Reports recently reported on Direct Buy and recommended staying away from it. Your sales presentation was exactly what every other victim in every other store has reported, right down to the buy-it-now-or-lose-it-forever sales pitch. What reputable company does business that way?
Think about their pitch. They claim to eliminate the middlemen but they ARE middlemen! There are no shortages of home-improvement stores, so there is little chance of this one being significantly lower in price than any of the others and the others do not require a four-figure membership fee. Once they have your membership fee they have no incentive to offer the lowest price.
Instead of looking for free legal advice in a forum like this, I would suggest consulting with an attorney who specializes in contract law in your state. Direct Buy made false representations to you that induced you to enter into the contract. A good attorney should be able to get you out of this and get your down payment returned.
