Received an invoice in the mail from Directdatapages.com 2 days after we just finished dealing with datasource411.com which just tried to pull the EXACT SAME scam on us.

One of our reps answered the phone, someone asked her if she could confirm or mailing address to send us out an invoice. She confirmed the address, that was the end of the call.

Week and 2 days later we receive a 2nd bill of the same sort for $739 + taxes. I called them, was told they had a voice recording of us accepting the invoice. The voice recording is of my rep confirming our address to accept an invoice. There is no mention of a NEW SERVICE subscription. Just an address to send out our invoice. hmm

Apparently they claim that is a legal binding "verbal" contract to accept there invoice and service.
I didn't get to the point where they got to intimidate me, but it was going into the same direction as what I had just dealt with 2 days prior with this known scam outfit datasource 411.

They try an intimidation tactic, If we don't pay we'll be liable for interest charges and possible legal action. Everything is being voice recorded, those are serious alligations, this could be used against you etc... blah blah

They aren't targeting seniors, they're going under the radar and focusing on businesses that can write it off and chalk it up for a learning experience. And because they setup a store/web front, it's walking the fine line between black and white when it comes to getting the RCMP involved.

I requested our company be removed from there directory, that the invioce be deleted from there system as we didn't agree for there service and they've refused to do so.

Anyone who's experienced a scam like this, I recommend you contact the better business bureau, and then contact the Competition Bureau http://www.competitionbureau.gc.ca/epic/site/cb-bc.nsf/Intro?Open so they can open a case against these companies which have migrated from the USA to Canada with a scam that is no longer tolerated legally over there.

They are legally stealing money, hard one for the RCMP to combat... Need to go to your local MP's hit up our government for action against these companies. Harsh penalties & fines need to be put into place against these companies.

Direct Data - More Testemonial and Suggestions

AUTHOR: Shimmer - (Canada)

POSTED: Thursday, December 11, 2008

We recently experienced the tactics of this organization. Everything described in the original Ripoff Report posting describes exactly what we experienced. My employee who unwittingly spoke to Direct Data ("DD") feels terrible about this as he knows he was duped.

I spoke with "DD" and asked to listen to the recording, it did indicate that the call was to confirm an order for their 411 service, and to confirm our company details. However, I asked them for the recording of the original order for the service and they could not provide it. I did get a threat that the invoice would go to a collection agency, which I indicated was fine with me. The caller from "DD" (last name Santos) was persistant in his intimidation tactics so I just humg up.

I have 2 suggestions to combat this type of harrassment. First educate employees on scams so they can recognize it. This is an on-going endeavour. I have given my employee the Ripoff Reports and other links to review periodically for new scams that show up. Second, as tedious as it can be for a small organization, use authorized PO's (purchase orders) for all purchases. It will put the authorization responsibility to the right individual in the organization. I noticed in the recording from "DD" that they asked if a PO was required. Because my employee said no, they proceeded with the scam. Hope this is useful.

Just like to say Norm is doing the right thing in this case. By not paying the invoice they cannot collect. They eventually realise he is a writeoff, too much of a hassel.
They will have to except they are wasting more of there own time then they can afford to. They don't see people, just rebuttals & quotas.
Recognize you have the upper hand, if you don't pay, they can't do anything.
ALL there threats are EMPTY. Believe me
If you tell them that "I'm keeping whatever you've sent me. As a token of the time you've wasted of mine....And. I would like written confirmation by fax, that my company has been added to your internal Blacklist. Do you have a pen handy?..My fax number is.,,, and feel free to use that for any other communication between our two companies. What's your name again? Everything else you send is getting forwarded to legal in head office."
Have a nice day. Phone bullies, know when they are wasting their breathe.
