I am also an unfortunate victim of this DirectBuy company scam. I paid over $3000.00 three years ago. When I tried to buy items such as: faucets, metal doors, building materials - DirectBuy only gives quotes which are outrageously expensive when compared with RONA, HOME DEPOT, CANADIAN TIRE etc. At that point the manager said that the suppliers they have only provide for upscale clients! who can spend that kind of money, BOTTOM LINE IS THERE WERE NO SAVINGS!!!
Later I tried to buy a LCD HDTV which I believe upscale buyers buy. The DirectBuy has very limited manufacturers which are JVC, Panasonic, Sharp, Hitachi, Benq. None of these manufacturer's catalogues had any LCD screens listed with 1920 x 1080 resolutions for 45", 50", 57" or 60". I took the trouble to go over the Sharp company's website and other retailers such as BestBuy - where I found the model that I liked with 1920 x 1080 resolution, I sent an email to the pricing department of DirectBuy for their quote - but I was shocked by their reply that the only model they carry from Sharp is LC45D40U which is a cheap priced and low resolution model and there is no way that they can special order any model with 1920 x 1080 resolution of 45" or higher sizes from any of the manufacturers that they have.
I was told at the HIGH-PRESSURE SALES PRESENTATION where I parted with my hard-earned $3000 that all I had to do was walk in to any retail store and provide them the model number and they could special order them! I WAS CHEATED and I think SCAM companies should not be allowed to operate in Canada.
It is high time that all aggrieved clients should get together and fight for a possible CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT against DirectBuy. If you know anybody else who has been cheated like this by this company, please respond - I will be approaching a lawyer for legal action and make formal complaints to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs. I will also be examining whether I can file a police complaint for Pressing Fraud charges.
