A man came to my house on 09/09/2008 and asked if I would be interested in gutter guards, so I made an appointment for the next day.

When another man called to confirm the appointment, I asked how long it would take. I was told 45 minutes.

Two other men came the next night, 09/10/2008. They were there for 5 hours. They were high pressure salesmen. To get them out of the house, I signed a contract. The left at 11:00pm.

The next day, 09/11/2008, I filled out the NOTICE OF CANCELLATION on the back of the contract and sent it certified to the address listed under the NOTICE OF CANCELLATION. I also faxed a copy of the cancellation to the company and called the company to inform them I was cancelling the contract.

On or about 09/27/2008, I received a notice from the post office to pick up a certified letter. The letter I picked up from the post office was the letter, with notice of cancellation, I sent to Dixie Home Crafters. The letter was marked Return to Sender, Not Deliverable as Addressed, Unable to Forward.

I find it appalling the address they gave to cancel is not valid. I'm afraid the company will try to deliver and charge me for the gutter guards, claiming they never received the notice of cancellation.

I don't like the high pressure tactics either. While this isn't illegal, I find it unethical, especially against senior citizens who may feel threatened by it.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

Same experience

AUTHOR: Turdburglar - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, May 01, 2009

I had the same experience where they asked for 45 minutes of our time and ended up at our house for 2 hours. They insisted my wife sit through the presentation even though she could care less and it was my decision.

My suggestion is to insist that you never make a purchase decision on the spot when an estimate is done. Repeat this as many times as you have to, and even if its uncomfortable, tell them time's up.

I've done plenty of business with great companies that give you a price and respect your ability as a consumer to get back with them later if you want to proceed. They are in business to make money, and if they stand by their product they will still want your business the next day or the next week should you decide to go with them.

While my experience wasn't a "rip-off," I think sales tactics like this are annoying.
