I am contacting you on an issue that I encountered when I called and visited Don Davis Ford on July 7, 2002. I called previously on July 5, 2002 and spoke with a salesman named Mohammad Dandan, and explained to him the position I was in on buying my next vehicle. I told him $460.00 was the max that I can budget on this truck, due to increasing cost of my college education. I called and told him that I was interested in an add I had seen in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

The Truck I was interested in was a 2002 Ford F-150 Super Crew advertised at $22,988.00. I specifically told him to consult with higher authority on whether this truck was within my reach or not. He later spoke with one of his sales managers named Mark, and called me back saying, I think we are real close to getting the payment where I want it and that I may not be as upside down on my truck than I think.

I told him to figure a $2,500.00 role over on my current vehicle, 3.9% interest rate, and $22,988.00 for the truck. We both came up with the same figures! The figures we came up with are $22,988.00 (price of truck) + $1000.00 (tax, title, and license) + $2500.00 (the remaining amount of my truck after appraisal) X 3.9% or .039% (the interest rate which I was approved) divided by 60 months. All of these figures result with $458.68 at 60 months. Mohammed, Mark, and I all had this same understanding.

The following day I spent over 2 hours with a salesman named Roger test driving the vehicle and filling out a large amount of paperwork. This led to the impression that I was going to be able to afford the truck I came to purchase. However, when we went over to the financing facility, things changed dramatically. Mr. Stewart left the room to get my approval from Ford Motor Credit, he came back with payments of $535.00 for 60 months, and this of course, was way out of my monthly finances.

Afterwards, he said if I would be interested in a 2002 Extended Cab, so I looked at it. After competing the paperwork for that truck I realized that I should not settle for less than what I came for. I would not be 100% satisfied with that truck for $460.00 per month. Why should I settle for less truck and pay the same exact price for something I didn't come for? I came in to Don Davis with the intention to purchase a 2002 Super Crew, because I was informed we could get close to the payment I desire.

I went and told Roger how I felt about the situation, his replied, I do not have to sale you a truck. He later went to consult with his sales manager named Jim. I explained my point of view to them and they went back to their office to see what they could do about the situation. They return with payments at $503.00 per month, which is a $43.00 difference that I couldn't commit to each month.

I have worked customer service for over five years, including management; I know the value of customer satisfaction so they will continue doing business in the future. I don't feel that I was treated fairly with honoring what I was told over the phone and when I visited your facility. My family has owned nothing but Ford vehicles for over 30 years now including: My Grandparents, Parents, Brothers, Sister, Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins. I could have brought Don Davis Ford a great deal of returning clientele, if your salesman and manager would have honored their word.

Nevertheless, my family members are dissatisfied with the methods of business that Don Davis Ford used. The result of the business methods you used has altered my decision on becoming a committed customer to Don Davis Ford and Ford Motor Company. I expect a company to honor what they advertise and stand by an agreement made between the customer and a salesman.

I hope that Don Davis finds more honest ways of doing business without wasting someone's time on misleading payments on the vehicles they want to purchase. I have been nothing but honest on my behalf, I don't feel Don Davis has been. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Interest does not work like you thought

AUTHOR: Brandon - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, July 16, 2002

The reason the payments did not work out is because interest does not work like you calculated. You cannot take a total amount and multiply it by an interest rate then divide by your payments.

Interest accrues each day you carry the loan. Even it you paid the loan off the next day, you would pay higher than what the sales price was.

I frown on the fact that the credit manager did not explain this to you earlier.

Where ever you are going to college at and for what ever speciality, I would suggest some finance and accounting courses. Even the basic 2 courses of each will take you a long way in your life and will benefit you forever. Even if you are getting a degree in art, you should still have this key knowledge.

Otherwise a SuperCrew for 23k is a pretty good deal!!

After I wrote this letter, I was contacted by the General Manager, Mark Anderson. We worked out a deal that was close to the price that I was told on the phone. The service was much better and I am glad that Don Davis was honest with me.

Again, Don Davis worked very hard to correct the problem that I had with them. Today I am a proud new owner of a New Ford.
