In S Florida, there are a lot of 'older' people looking for a quick fix/fountain of youth, and this guy preys on that mentality. I am a 44yr male (former Rugby player and marathon runner), so I have aches and pains from some 'excessive' wear and tear over the years. I went in for some routine blood work, mainly b/c I knew I had past results indicating high cholesterol. I've also had trouble sleeping within the last couple of years, and wanted to see if there was anything in my bloodwork that could help explain this.
Almost immediately, the doctor made constant inappropriate references to my libido, 'morning wood', 'sex w/young strippers', etc. He said I was having trouble sleeping due to low Testosterone. He prrescribed HcG (a compound mixed and sold in his office, which I then injected daily, meant to aid in the production of testosterone), in addition to a plethora of other drugs and vitamins. He also tries to convince me to do some procedure on my veins in my legs. (even though i did not complain at all about any symptoms of pain, etc in my legs).
Less than 1 month later, I gained about 10 lbs and had severe acne all over my face (my guess, due to water retention and other side effects from medication). On my follow-up visit, rather than recommend cutting back dosage on meds, Dr starts telling me about other medications I can take to combat the acne - including a '2-step wash', which, coincidentally, his practice manufactures (www.epilution.com) , as well as other 'less legal' options like vitamin A (which apparently can be lethal, if not administered in the proper dosage). In addition, he jokes about the weight gain and says its not 'statistically significant'. However, ~10lbs in 3.5 weeks, w/o any significant change in diet, lifestyle, etc, other than all the meds he prescribed, points to the obvious. Rather than determine if it's a possible side effect of the meds, he prescribes 'water pills'.
Well, realizing that this Dr was just trying to push meds and his own products/compounds on me, I ordered a copy of my lab results directly from Quest Diagnostics, and it turns out my testosterone results from the initial bloodwoork were actually 'in range', so there was no need for any HcG to help in that area. Also, I received my insurance statement, which had a charge of $1500 for 'testosterone pellet' prescription, which I didn't actually receive, and won't because, my T-levels are actually just fine.
This 'doctor' is probably one of the worst I've experienced....nothing more that a fast-talking, rude, prescription pushing snake-oil salesman. Beware!!!
