Drexel Heritage - Classic Interiors Company Bellied UP and RIPPED ME OFF! Orange Connecticut

On 4/23/04 I ordered a very expensive Maitland Smith table for my foyer and a mirror from Drexel Heritage in Orange, CT. The total cost for both was $2623.50. I gave them a deposit of $1323.50 on that date. The expected delivery for the said items was to be in 4 weeks.

Today, June 1, 2004 I called to expedite my order to find the store had been closed due to inventory and to call the Drexel Heritage company direct. After doing so, and many unanswered telephone calls. Customer service informed me that the Orange CT store bellied up due to "the owner embezzeled $450000 and we don't know where he is and he filed Chapter 11 in the Brookfield store." That was customer services response to me.

When I inquired on my deposit and if my order could be shipped directly to me - I was told "we're not responsible for your items and we can't help you." I was informed that a new owner would be opening the store in Orange, CT in 2 wks and I would get my items. Yea, I wonder! hummmmmmm - I then inquired who the new owner was and what the store name would me, her answer "I can't give you that answer." Well, you can take my g.d. $1323.50 from me can't you?!?!?! I called my credit card company ASAP and disputed the charge as well as the Dept of Consumer Protection.

I will not let this lie. I also researched the salesman name and address of his personal home which I will be contacting as well.

Buyer Beware - I sure hope no one else is in the dilemna but I'm sure there are other angry consumers
