First, I was really excited to learn that I was able to purcahse a vehicle. Fresh out of college, oblivious to my surroundings, a friend referred me to the company, so I went and applied and BAM...was approved on the spot. I was making my purchases every 2 weeks on time. I lost my job due to a slumped economy however my last pay check went to pay my car note. Not rent, car note. So as time goes by... I realized that the company known as Drive Time Credit Corporation was once known as the ugly duckling. Pretty much a company that preys on individuals with bad credit or no credit at all.

So 3 three months into not having a job, my unemployment finally arrives and I shoot them a cool $1000 to cover the charges that I owed. Somehow, a old man calls my house phone and my sister answers and tells him I am not home at the time(which I was not) and procedes to ask her to if the vehicle was outside and she was like what the hell sir i do not think you have a right to ask me that. And she hung up the phone. He calls back and tells her he is on his way and i better be there or else he is sending the poilce out to arrest me for vehicle theft, now at this time the vehicle had been in my possession for well over 4 years and I was only late a few times here or there but never missed a payment period so is that vehicle theft.

So I decided to call and work out a deal with them when it came to my payment plan. Not to mention they had my payment dates all wrong. I purchased the vehicle on April 20th somehow my new payments exactly one year later to that date were now April 1, which would put me exactly 2 weeks behind.

I ended up getting a letter asking for $17700 dollars to settle out my account. WHAT THE HELL? I had the vehicle for well over 4 years and its still not paid off. The amount they requested was all of finance charges. Even after I TOLD THEM I WOULD RETURN THE VEHICLE THEY STILL SAID I WAS GOING TO HAVE TO PAY THEM  THAT BALANCE.. HELL NO!!!!!! DO I LOOK LIKE BOO-BOO HE FRIGGING FOOL!

PLEASE STAY AWAY... DO NOT GET SUCKERED INTO PURCHASING A VEHICLE....... SIMPLY PURCHASE A BUS PASS UNTIL YOU SAVE YOUR MONEY... THE INTEREST FEES ARE WAY TOO HIGH AND THEY WILL STOP AT NOTHING TO REACH YOU. YOU PRETTY MUCH HAVE TO MOVE AWAY AND CHANGE YOUR IDENTITY FOR THEM TO LEAVE YOU ALONE.

Just be honest and state you are a DT employee and stop with the snide remarks and insults. You are aware your employer utilizes strong arm and decpetive tactics. Not everyone is as adept in deception. But, as a car salesmen, you are more than adept.

e is exactly right they are4 harassers, my story is similar to his, but I was behind  2 weeks , So i signed a form si that they waived my monthly payment. Drive time is crap, basically and trust they give a new meaning to not buying a car to them. The people that I referred to them are having the same problem. So they are rip offs

Drive Time did NOT prey on you.  You went to them, asked them for credit, drove off the lot with THEIR car and didn't make the scheduled payments.

They did not rip you off...... You pretty much ripped them off.

I do not understand why people, on this site, feel that any lender who charges late fees, reposses, sues, etc.. feels they are ripped off.  A contract is a contract -- the current state of the economy is not an excuse for people to not pay on their debt.

How car financing works because most of what you wrote here is standard with just about every financing company.

He calls back and tells her he is on his way and i better be there or else he is sending the police out to arrest me for vehicle theft, now at this time the vehicle had been in my possession for well over 4 years and I was only late a few times here or there but never missed a payment period so is that vehicle theft.

- Until the car is paid off they have a security interest in the car.  So technically if you hide a vehicle from them and they want to repossess it, it could be seen as theft.  However, what would more likely happen is that they would get a court order to get the car.  You would then have a visit from your local law enforcement and they would give you a choice.  To turn over the car or get arrested.

Also, when you paid late you had "missed a payment".

Not to mention they had my payment dates all wrong. I purchased the vehicle on April 20th somehow my new payments exactly one year later to that date were now April 1, which would put me exactly 2 weeks behind.

- Not sure what you mean by this. But the 1st to the 20th is not exactly 2 weeks.

Even after I TOLD THEM I WOULD RETURN THE VEHICLE THEY STILL SAID I WAS GOING TO HAVE TO PAY THEM THAT BALANCE.. HELL NO!!!!!! DO I LOOK LIKE BOO-BOO HE FRIGGING FOOL!

- No just naive.  When you signed the loan documents you agreed to pay off the loan.  So if they repossess it, and you turning it in is just a voluntary repossession they have the legal right to require you to pay off the loan balance.  They will sell the car and what ever is remaining on the loan you still owe.  If you refuse to pay it, they will turn you over to collections, and could eventually file a suit against you.

THE INTEREST FEES ARE WAY TOO HIGH AND THEY WILL STOP AT NOTHING TO REACH YOU. YOU PRETTY MUCH HAVE TO MOVE AWAY AND CHANGE YOUR IDENTITY FOR THEM TO LEAVE YOU ALONE.

- Or better yet pay your loan on-time.
