Drive time should be out of business and not allowed to change their name to continue to rip off customers. I purchased a car in 2015 and less than 6 months later had to have major repairs. These repairs have not stopped and I'm still obligated to make my monthly payments. I was even informed by two mechanics that the car has been wrecked but no report shows on the car when you search for accidents. I haven't missed any payments for 2 years and still owe 17,000$ on this car. There is nothing for me to do other than continue to make payments without risking damage to my credit which I have worked hard to rebuild. This company was already sued for this type of service and lost millions. I want some assistance to bring this to someone's attention who can take them out of business for good.

If it were that easy to trade I would've don't that a year ago. If you owe more than the car is worth then you are faced with a large amount of negative equity on a new car loan. And I completely understand about maintenance on a car, however I shouldn't have major repairs after a few months that continue even to today. Yes I have a warranty but as you stated it hasn't been much good. The bottom line is I bought a piece of garbage and now I'm stuck.

You don't have to stay with them

You are different than many of the DriveTime consumers that post here - you have been making all of your payments on time and working on your credit, according to your post.

Since you have been working on your credit and making your payments on time, you can either refinance your current loan with another lender or trade in your vehicle on something else with different financing. It is generally more cost effective to refi with another, better lender. A credit union is a good choice. The issue you might face is the value of the vehicle relative to your current loan. It may still be upside down as DriveTime is known for their high prices and high interest rates.

As to the other part of your post about having to make the repairs on your vehicle and make the monthly payments, that is completely normal. No lender picks up your maintenance or repair costs on the vehicle. Most vehicles are sold AS IS and it is up to the vehicle buyer to pay for maintenance and repairs. The exception is if you have a vehicle warranty. But I haven't seen decent vehicle warranty contracts in a very long time. You would have to read the warranty to see what is covered and what is excluded before you agree to buy one. Most of the time they just aren't worth it - in my opinion.
