My nutritionist recommended that I have a food sensitivity test done when I was having stomach issues and it wasn't quite clear what was causing the symptoms. It was explained to me (and with some additional research I learned) that often food allergies can be undiscovered because foods that cause reactions aren't necessarily obvious. Milk, cheese, bread, etc. can make a person feel bloated or ill in many ways, and those reactions are usually immediate and obvious. Other foods can be tougher to identify and can't be noticed by the 'wait and see how I feel after eating' approach.

This is where a blood test comes in, and it is crucial that it provides accurate results or it's otherwise a waste of time and money. And this is where Dunwoody Labs comes into the picture. A few months after having the test I learned that the creator of the testing method jumped ship from their lab because it had been performing the test incorrectly and therefore giving out erroneous results to all the people who plunked down their money or the insurance companies that were billed for the tests. This could be hundreds, if not thousands of people, and involve tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars the lab billed for a service that they knew they were doing wrong, if not at the time, they eventually found out when it was discovered, but failed to inform patients or the insurance companies they billed. The time period was for a great deal of last year, 2014.

So there I was thinking 'X.Y. and Z' were foods or ingredients that are harmful to me, and that turned out not to be true. The only reason I learned of their error was because my nutritionist had the integrity to tell me, even though they were afraid of losing patients and their reputation over the issue. Many patients became irate, demanded refunds from Dunwoody Labs, and quite a few were fed up and decided to go to another nutritionist. Dunwoody Lab personnel admitted the control plates they used in the tests were compromised, and their accounting department begrudging issued a few refunds to the noisiest of the dissatisfied customers, but for the most part swept the issue under the rug and I doubt ever contacted the health insurance companies they essentially ripped off through their billing.

And here's where I come in: I thought my insurance company paid, but they did not, so in my mailbox appears a bill from Dunwoody Labs 6 months later saying I owe them $250, which I should consider a bargain because they ask the insurance companies $2,772.00 for the test. Wow. And then they remain demanding and rude when asked to rescind the bill based upon the circumstances.

So now I wonder - Why doesn't this get exposed?. Why doesn't Blue Cross Blue Shield and others, or hell, the Justice Department look into this and hold them accountable? It's right up their alley, and Dunwoody Labs bilked insurance and people across state lines, making it federal in nature, as well as using phones and the mail (wire fraud and mail fraud) to defraud insurance companies and patients. And after being aware of the fact their test results were bunk they didn’t do the right thing, they kept the money. I’m guessing that was illegal. I suppose for me the next stops after ripoff report will be to some of the major health insurance companies and a Justice Department whistleblower contact. Dunwoody Labs is scamming little old ladies and large insurance companies all at once. Hope to see you in the news soon, folks.

Dunwoody Labs

AUTHOR: Cheryl - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, September 20, 2017

1)      This person asserts that the original developer of the test “jumped shipped.” This accusation is false. The same lab director that founded Dunwoody Labs and developed food sensitivity methodology is still with Dunwoody Labs and the ongoing development of testing there. This accusation is something most likely said by a competitor to cast dispersions on Dunwoody, but has no basis.

2)      The methodology used is highly accepted and supported by peer reviewed medical literature. Dunwoody Labs is inspected by CLIA, the government board that oversees labs on a regular basis. Methodologies used are similar to but superior to what many of the larger labs use.  The Dunwoody Food Testing methodology has met and exceeded CLIA standards. Dunwoody is and continues to be in good standing with CLIA.  There is public access to government regulation of laboratories.  The public can always check that these records and that the lab that they are working with is in good standing. Such is the case with Dunwoody Labs.

3)      Insurance billing is done in accordance with the law and all regulations. The codes that are used are appropriate to the methodology and approved by insurance companies to be used accordingly. Insurance companies such as BCBS have reviewed Dunwoody’s billing procedures and found them to be correct and appropriate.

4)      Patients sign paperwork before the test is performed explaining how billing will occur and the patient’s financial responsibility for the test. All patients are notified before, in writing, and required to sign documentation that explains billing procedures prior to any testing takes place.

Even when the test this guy had done is working "correctly," it's still BS. Just a way for the owner to collect insurance reimbursements.
