A young woman named Tammy(If memory serves me correctly)came into our neighborhood and while my mother and I were on the porch she approached us.  Tam said she was in a contest to sell enough magazine subscriptions.  Any other day we would have said no thanks but the day had great weather and we didn't have anything else going on so we took a ear to what she had to say.

Having been in sales myself and both of my parents managers were are always skeptical of people who sell, especially door-to-door.  She was a blond lady, about 5'9, skinny, and with a nose piercing I do believe.  We listened to what she had to say and looked at the magazines.  There was some decent ones with technology, gaming, etc.  We ended up writing her a couple checks for subscriptions.

My mother had bought a years worth of magazines for about $70 and I have my receipt still and I had bought $63 worth of technology magazine subscriptions.

I still have yet to see the magazines, but the girl, Tam, said it could take 2-6 months to receive because the work was with some boyscouts/girlscouts, some kind of volunteer thing so it sound more plausible being a non-profit company working alongside a company selling a product.  I remember when we lived at our grandparents and I had to sell stuff out of a magazine to raise money.

I just want my money back and so does my mother obviously.  We basically payed 10 hours of work time for nothing.  10 hours of work that we will not get back because someone has to be a fraudulent, piece of crap skum of the Earth.  It's bad enough I work for minimum pay and no benefits that some person has to steal money from people.  Oh well, I guess the bankers do that anyway so what's the difference.

If your mom wasnt there at the time, I would have suggested you make the girl "work" for the sale.

Those contests can get competitive!

#1 Consumer Suggestion

Next time ask for the "Bill Me" option

I doubt you will ever see this crackhead again, but next time you get in this situation ask if you can do the "bill me later"option.  If they dont offer it, then say well tuff luck.

If you really want the magazines then you can call them up directly and ask if they have the bill me later option.

I used this awhile back on a phone solicitor.  I enjoyed Maxim, Stuff, and something else (cant remember what) for quite along time before they started billing. Think I got a free gift too.

Funny the bills came in someone else's name, I wonder how that happened?  Since I dont pay other peoples bills I just trashed them.

Who really needs mags now anyway with the internet?
