Purchased E-Machine computer and components on 6/02/02 with advertised rebates from E-Machines, Circuit City, and Lexmark Printers.
Mailed in all receipts and rebate claim forms on 6/10/02 as instructed by Circuit City sales representative. Just today (7-19-02) received letter from E-Machines stating they would not honor my rebate due to my not including the bar codes cut off the boxes. This was not explained by the Circuit City sales person but was in the FINE PRINT of the instructions.
They took over a month to notify me of this and now it is too late to take the merchandise back to Circuit City for a refund. Also, they have flatly refused to honor the rebate although they have in their possession my sales receipt which clearly shows the bar code stamped on it.

FINE PRINT?

I PURCHASE MANY ITEMS AT VARIOUS STORES THAT REQUIRE MAIL-IN REBATES, INCLUDING CIRCUIT CITY. EVERY CIRCUIT CITY REBATE IS IDENTICAL IN IT'S FORMAT. THE TOP OF THE REBATE IS THE REBATE HEADER AND REBATE AMOUNT. AFTER THAT IS A CHECKLIST OF ALL ITEMS THAT NEED TO BE INCLUDED, MARKED BY ASTERISKS. THEN, IF YOU NEED TO RECORD ANY SERIAL NUMBERS, THEY LIST WHICH ITEMS NEED TO BE RECORDED AND GIVE YOU BLANK IN WHICH TO RECORD THEM.
THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOLLOW, BASICALLY, PURCHASE DATES AND DATES BY WHICH THE NEED TO BE POSTMARKED, ABOUT 30 DAYS AFTER THE PURCHASE DATE. THEY THEN LIST YOUR ADDRESS, THE ADDRESS IN WHICH TO SEND IT TO, AND FINALLY, A PHONE NUMBER AND/OR WEB SITE THAT YOU CAN USE TO TRACK YOUR REBATE. ALL IN THE SAME SIZED TEXT!!!
AS FOR THE BARCODE AT THE TOP OF THE REBATE FORM AND RECEIPT, THOSE ARE BARCODE VERSIONS OF YOUR TICKET NUMBER, NOT A UPC. UPC'S HAVE BEEN USED FOR DECADES NOW AND ARE PRINTED ON THE PRODUCT PACKAGE, WITH 12 NUMBERS PRINTED UNDERNEATH IT.
BET YOUR VCR CLOCK STILL BLINKS 12:00, DOESN'T IT?
